Greg Gutfeld Exposed Why Democrats Really Excommunicated Haley Stevens but Kept Their Socialist

Nov 4, 2026

Michigan Democrats nominated a socialist who did not cut ties with streamer Hasan Piker.

Then Michigan Congresswoman Haley Stevens refused to back him and endorsed the Republican, Mike Rogers.

What Democrats did to Stevens next is a double standard the socialist never had to face.

Haley Stevens Endorsed a Republican and Democrats Turned On Her

Stevens ran against Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan's bitter Senate primary and lost.

She refused to fall in line behind him afterward, telling Fox News that Michigan did not need a "celebrity candidate."

Her objections were specific, not vague party sniping.

She publicly urged El-Sayed to drop his association with Hasan Piker, the streamer whose commentary on Israel has drawn sustained criticism from mainstream Jewish organizations.

El-Sayed did not drop him.

Stevens then endorsed Rogers, the Republican running against the Democratic nominee, and her fiancé went public saying he was voting for Rogers too.

Democratic allies accused her of abandoning the party at the exact moment it needed unity.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and retiring Senator Gary Peters had both endorsed Stevens during the primary, which makes the party's abrupt silence after she lost even harder to square.

Abdul El-Sayed Never Had to Answer for His Hasan Piker Ties

El-Sayed is the Democratic Senate nominee in Michigan, and he is a self-described democratic socialist.

He never lost a single mainstream Democratic endorsement or any backing from national party leadership over the Piker controversy.

Greg Gutfeld put the asymmetry plainly on Fox News' The Five, noting that Democrats call their coalition a "big tent" while applying that tolerance in one direction only.

"So if the big tent can tolerate dissent in one direction, why can't it tolerate dissent in the other direction?" Gutfeld asked.

Stevens broke from her party's nominee over a documented concern and got treated as a traitor.

El-Sayed kept a relationship with a controversial streamer and got treated as the future of the party.

Joe Lieberman Survived the Same Democrat Excommunication in 2006

Michigan Democrats did not invent this tactic.

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman backed the Iraq War as a sitting Democrat in 2006, and his party ran a primary challenger specifically to remove him.

Lieberman lost that primary, left the party, and won reelection anyway as an independent – and by and large voted with his former party on everything outside of Iraq for the rest of his career.

Two decades later, the mechanism is identical: break from the uni-party's preferred direction in the right way and you’ll get taken care of, break in the wrong way and you’ll get taken care of, too.

That is, you might say what’s happening – and what will happen – to Haley Stevens is the reverse of what happened to the most conservative man in Congress, Thomas Massie.

And if she doesn’t run for office again like Joe Lieberman did, look for her to skip right to getting paid to show up regularly on Fox News like Lieberman later did.

One wonders what the connection might be.

Gutfeld's point will outlast the outcome either way.

Voters who watched a congresswoman get frozen out for an honest disagreement, were told by the same people it’s not okay when someone in their party does it on the same issue in the opposite direction.
