Bruce Blakeman Named Hochul’s Dead New Yorkers and Watched Her Short Circuit on Live TV

Oct 16, 2026

An illegal migrant walked into an Irondequoit home and gunned down four New Yorkers, two of them children under five.

Bruce Blakeman brought that massacre straight to Kathy Hochul's face during their only debate before Election Day.

Hochul's reaction to hearing those names left viewers across New York stunned and searching for answers.

Blakeman Put Nassau and Rochester's Dead New Yorkers in Hochul's Face

The Spectrum News debate in Albany was supposed to be a routine campaign stop.

Instead, Bruce Blakeman turned it into a roll call of victims.

He named two thirty-year-old Nassau County women allegedly murdered by an illegal migrant.

He named four people killed in Irondequoit, two of them children under five, allegedly at the hands of another illegal migrant.

He named a fourteen-year-old girl allegedly raped by a third.

Blakeman told Hochul directly that sixteen thousand ICE detainers are sitting unenforced in New York, tied to people charged with fifty-two thousand crimes statewide, because her sanctuary laws forbid local police from touching a single one.

He said her administration has poured eight billion dollars into services for illegal migrants while spending far less to protect the New Yorkers already living here legally.

Hochul countered that she has put four billion dollars into law enforcement and accused Blakeman of lying about his record with ICE.

That was the moment cameras caught Hochul glitching mid-sentence, prompting Republican strategist Stefan Mychajliw to post on X that viewers had just watched "the Worst Governor in America" have her "brain short circuit on live TV."

Blakeman did not let up.

He pointed to U.S. News and World Report ranking Nassau County the safest in America, built, he said, on the exact ICE cooperation Hochul's statewide policies forbid.

Hochul Refused to Apologize to a Single Family He Named

Blakeman did not stop at statistics.

He asked Hochul directly to apologize to the families of the victims he had just named.

He specifically asked her to return a phone call from the parents of Sheridan Gorman, a young woman allegedly killed by an illegal migrant.

Hochul would not do it.

She offered only that "any crime is heartbreaking" and that she remains "laser focused" on safety, without ever picking up the phone metaphor Blakeman handed her.

The debate landed days after an ICE officer shot Oscar Belgal, a Dominican national with a reported grand larceny conviction and a pending drug case, as he allegedly accelerated his car toward federal agents in the Bronx with a five-year-old in the back seat.

Federal authorities reportedly linked Belgal to the Trinitarios gang and to an earlier shooting of an off-duty Border Patrol agent.

Hochul had no response to the Belgal case when Blakeman raised it on stage.

New York City Councilman Robert Holden, a registered Democrat, has already crossed party lines to endorse Blakeman over the governor.

Hochul Already Told New York She Was Scared of the Wrong Republican

Just over three months before she glitched on stage, Hochul told Newsday's editorial board that Elise Stefanik would have been a tougher opponent than Blakeman, dismissing him with "Bruce is, you know, Bruce."

New York found out during the Spectrum News debate exactly how wrong that read was.

Stefanik never had to put a face on Hochul's sanctuary laws because she dropped out of the race before the nomination.

Blakeman did, and he brought receipts instead of talking points – specific victims, specific dollar figures, specific detainers Albany refuses to honor.

Immigration analyst Alfonso Aguilar has documented the same pattern nationally: sanctuary jurisdictions declined more than twenty-five thousand ICE detainers between late 2022 and early 2025, and at least 72 of the people released anyway carried homicide convictions or charges.

Aguilar put it bluntly – releasing those detainees means jurisdictions are "putting in danger the lives and property of their citizens," and his warning applies just as well to Albany as it does to Sacramento.

When a governor blocks cooperation with ICE, the bill comes due in names like Sheridan Gorman's.

Hochul picked a fight about ICE cooperation on a debate stage and then couldn't finish her own sentence while Blakeman read the cost of that policy out loud.
