Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris citing woke priorities like abortion-on-demand and transgender surgeries for kids as her reasons for endorsing Kamala Harris.
“I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” Swift posted on Instagram.
But Swift didn’t just tell fans why she was voting for Kamala Harris.
Swift also explained to her fans how they can vote for Kamala Harris.
In her endorsement statement, Swift included a link for vote.gov and directed her supporters to register to vote.
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story,” Swift continued.
Swift’s endorsement naturally went viral with more than 10,000 likes.
The more important number – however – was the fact that more than 300,000 people clicked the link and visited the voter registration site.
“The General Services Administration, which oversees the website, confirmed to NBC News that as of 2 p.m. ET Wednesday, 337,826 people had visited a custom URL that Swift posted on Instagram when she announced she was endorsing Harris,” NBC News reported.
Seeing the success of the tactic, Swift doubled down and again urged her fans to register to vote in her acceptance speech for video of the year for “Fortnite.”
“So, thank you to MTV for giving me this opportunity to thank the fans, to thank you for what you’ve done. And the fact that this is a fan-voted award and you voted for this, I appreciate it so much. And if you are over 18, please register to vote for something else that’s very important coming up, the 2024 presidential election,” Swift told the crowd and TV audience.
Kamala Harris needs Swift’s support
Kamala Harris needs a massive turnout of young, single women to win the election.
That’s Taylor Swift’s fan base.
The most recent New York Times/Siena poll found Trump leading Kamala Harris by 17 points with men while Kamala led with women by 11.
If Taylor Swift could change the composite of the electorate by encouraging mass numbers of her young, single, female fans to register to vote and turnout, Kamala Harris could see another path to victory open up.
