Geraldo Rivera and Donald Trump used to be close friends.
But Rivera broke with Trump over the 2020 election.
Now, Geraldo Rivera took Donald Trump by surprise with one unexpected gesture.
Donald Trump’s proposed mass pardons
The January 6 defendants became the symbol of how Joe Biden weaponized the government to target Trump and his supporters.
Joe Biden’s Justice Department treated Black Lives Matter and Antifa rioters with kid gloves.
Biden commuted the death sentences of 37 convicted murderers.
Biden also corruptly pardoned his son.
But the Justice Department – with the help of the FBI – hunted down 1,600 Trump supporters and threw the book at them for the events of January 6.
Some defendants rotted away in the D.C. jail for years awaiting trial under inhumane conditions the Left would go crazy about if an Al Qaeda terrorist was subjected to such treatment at Gitmo.
And with Trump set to take office, the Justice Department announced it was still pursuing hundreds more January 6 cases.
Donald Trump has promised mass pardons of the January 6 defendants – who he has called “hostages” throughout the campaign.
In a post-election interview, Trump told NBC’s Kristen Welker pardoning the January 6 defendants would likely be a day one priority.
“Most likely, I’ll do it very quickly,” Trump stated. He added that “those people have suffered long and hard. And there may be some exceptions to it. I have to look. But, you know, if somebody was radical, crazy.”
Bloomberg is now reporting Trump will pardon more than 1,000 January 6 defendants.
“As Trump prepares to return to power in two weeks, expectations are high for him to reward that allegiance and fulfill his promises of swift clemency for the 1,000-plus people convicted and hundreds more with pending cases,” Bloomberg reported.
Geraldo Rivera agrees with Trump’s mass pardons for January 6 defendants
Geraldo Rivera – whose friendship with Trump ended over January 6 – told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo that a mass pardon for the January 6 defendants was the right move, saying they “have suffered enough.”
“We can never have the Capitol of the United States desecrated. However, having said all that, I believe that the president does the right thing by pardoning these people. I repeat, I think that these folks have suffered enough,” Rivera began.
“Their lives have been completely disrupted. You know, I’m not talking about the Proud Boys or the Oath Keepers of the professional agitators and terrorists, but I’m talking about the average schmo who listened to President Trump and as a result put his entire life in jeopardy,” Rivera stated.
Rivera said Joe Biden jailed these Americans because their real crime was believing Donald Trump about what happened in the 2020 election.
“These folks, all of them, were punished because of their adherence, their love for, their belief in, their faith in Donald J. Trump. They believed him when he said that the election was stolen,” Rivera added.
January 6 wasn’t an insurrection.
It was a political protest that got out of hand.
And Joe Biden seized on that to declare a domestic war on terror against Trump and his supporters.
Trump can close the book on this sad chapter with his mass pardons.
