Donald Trump just stunned reporters with this revelation about Elon Musk leaving DOGE

Donald Trump and Elon Musk have developed a strong friendship over the past two months.

Democrats and the media have been trying to drive a wedge between Trump and Musk.

And Donald Trump just stunned reporters with this revelation about Elon Musk leaving DOGE.

Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are taking a wrecking ball to the federal bureaucracy as part of the effort to find $1 trillion in waste, fraud, and abuse to cut from the budget.

Donald Trump created DOGE through an executive order he issued on his first day in office.

DOGE is a “temporary organization” that will end in 2026.

“The U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization shall be headed by the USDS Administrator and shall be dedicated to advancing the President’s 18-month DOGE agenda,” the DOGE executive order reads. “The U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization shall terminate on July 4, 2026.”

Democrats and the media have been raising hell over the DOGE audits.

Congressional Democrats have protested in the streets and called for Elon Musk to be arrested and deported.

Left-wing activists are holding protests at Tesla dealerships and far-Left radicals have attacked Tesla cars, dealerships, and charging stations all across the country.

Musk is the world’s richest man, but roughly one-third of his estimated $330 billion wealth consists of Tesla stocks.

During a town hall event in Wisconsin, Musk admitted that his finances are taking a hit due to his involvement in DOGE.

“What they’re trying to do is put massive pressure on me, and Tesla, I guess, to stop doing this,” Musk said. “My Tesla stock and the stock of everyone who holds Tesla has gone, went roughly in half,” he continued. “I mean it’s a big deal.”

“This is a very expensive job, is what I’m saying,” Musk added.

Since he is considered a “special government employee,” Musk does not receive a salary for his work at DOGE.

“Special government employee” is a category of federal workers who are only supposed to work for 130 days.

Donald Trump has stood behind Elon Musk from Day One.

Trump even purchased a Tesla for the White House staff to use in order to show his appreciation for the sacrifice Musk is making for the country.

But although Trump thinks Elon Musk is doing great work, he is a temporary government employee and has several businesses of his own that require his attention.

During a presser in the Oval Office on Monday, Donald Trump told reporters that Musk would eventually be leaving DOGE to go back to his companies.

“I think Elon is amazing but I also think he got a big company to run, so at some point he’s going to be going back,” Trump said. “He’s a very talented guy, he’s very smart, and has done a good job,” he continued. “DOGE found numbers that nobody can even believe, like 400 billion – it could be close to a trillion dollars by the time they end.”

“They have done a great job,” Trump said, before adding that, “at some point, Elon’s going to want to go back to his company, I will say despite the way he’s treated, he’s a great patriot.”

A reporter followed up by asking Trump “is DOGE going to keep operating even without Elon here?”

“Well, I can’t tell you that,” Trump replied. “I can say this, that a lot of the people working with DOGE are the secretaries, the heads of the various agencies, and they’ve learned a lot.”

“They’re dealing with the DOGE people,” Trump added. “I think some of them may try and keep the DOGE people with them, but you know, at a certain point, I think it will end.”

Elon Musk will likely be stepping away from DOGE at the end of April in order to give more time to his companies.

But DOGE is making fundamental changes to the federal bureaucracy that will last well beyond Musk’s time at the department.
