CNN Asked Adam Schiff About the Socialist Takeover and His Answer Said Everything About How to Lose Elections

Aug 3, 2026

Democratic Socialists of America co-chair Megan Romer went on Fox News and said the quiet part out loud.

Days later a new CNN poll revealed just how many Democrats actually agree with her.

Then CNN asked Adam Schiff if he agreed, and his answer said everything about how to lose an election.

New CNN Poll Shows One Third of Democrats Are Now Self Described Socialists

CNN and pollster SSRS just put a number on something conservatives have suspected for a while, and it is worse than expected: one in three Democrats now calls themselves a democratic socialist.

That is not a fringe faction anymore.

That is one out of every three people in the entire Democrat Party.

Worse for Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer's old guard, this group is not some passive bloc sitting quietly in the back of the room.

The poll found these self identified socialists are more enthusiastic than the rest of the party heading into the midterms and far more eager to blow up current Democrat leadership.

They want younger candidates.

They want the party dragged further left.

And they are already getting exactly what they asked for.

Democratic Socialists of America backed candidates have knocked off establishment incumbents in New York and Colorado this year, and self professed socialist Zohran Mamdani captured the New York City mayor's race.

Schiff Picked the Socialist Tent Over His Own Party's Future

CNN anchor Erin Burnett put Senator Adam Schiff on the spot with the poll numbers in hand.

She told him a third of Democrats now call themselves socialists and asked him directly whether he was on board with where his party is headed.

Schiff did not push back.

He did not distance himself from the socialist wing.

"I would rather be in that big tent in the majority," Schiff said.

Translation from a career Democrat who has spent decades chasing power in Washington: whatever gets Democrats back in charge is fine with him, socialists included.

That is not leadership.

That is surrender dressed up as strategy.

Romer Already Told America Exactly What That Tent Includes

If Schiff wants to know what he just signed up for, he should rewatch Megan Romer's interview with Fox News host Shannon Bream.

Bream read Romer a list of DSA positions and asked for a simple true or false.

Abolish the Senate.

Replace the presidency and the Supreme Court.

Abolish ICE.

Open the borders and grant mass amnesty.

Defund the Pentagon.

Eliminate prisons.

Hand most large corporations over to government control.

Romer confirmed almost the entire list without blinking, and the only thing she slowed down on was the timeline.

"The Senate is an anachronistic institution," Romer said, dismissing half of Congress as outdated furniture.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has not minced words about what the socialist wing is doing to his own opposition.

"This is surely not your father's Democrat Party," Scalise said.

Speaker Mike Johnson went further, calling Mamdani a "big-government Marxist" and pointing out that Democrats are repeating the mistake that got them wiped out in 2024.

This Is the Same Trap Democrats Walked Into Once Before

Republicans and even some old school Democratic strategists are already drawing the comparison to 1972, when George McGovern's left flank seized the nomination and the party's own labor allies abandoned him on their way to a 49 state wipeout.

RealClearPolitics laid out the parallel bluntly this month, noting the current progressive surge inside safe Democrat seats looks a lot like the activist takeover that turned 1972 into a historic Democrat disaster.

The difference this time is nobody in Democrat leadership is even trying to stop it.

A separate poll puts a hard number on the risk they are ignoring, with a full 51 percent of voters saying they see nothing good in socialism at all.

Democrats are racing toward a cliff and calling it momentum.

The Democrat Party Handed Its Microphone to People Who Want to Erase the Senate

Here is what fires me up about this one.

Live television does not give you a do-over, and Schiff had his one shot to draw a line.

Every swing voter who watches that clip now knows exactly who is steering the Democrat Party into November.

Not Schiff.

Not Schumer.

Megan Romer and the DSA base that just forced establishment Democrats out of safe seats in New York and Colorado.

Republicans do not need to invent an attack ad here.

They just need to hit play on Romer's own words and let Schiff's answer run right behind it.

Schiff called it a big tent, but a tent with the Senate, ICE, and the Supreme Court on the chopping block is not a tent, it is a hostage situation, and he just volunteered to stay inside it.
