South Carolina Conservatives Have Only One Proven Fighter on August 11

South Carolina Republicans have one job on August 11.

They have to pick the one candidate in a crowded field who has actually spent a career fighting for conservative principles.

That candidate is Ralph Norman.

A Record Built Over Years, Not Manufactured in a Month

Ralph Norman did not show up to this race with a famous last name and a press release.

He built his conservative credentials the hard way, first in Columbia and then for nine years in the U.S. House, where he became vice chair of the House Freedom Caucus and racked up a lifetime conservative voting record near 98 percent.

South Carolina conservatives don’t have to take our word for it either, the Senate Conservatives Fund put its own name behind Norman, ranking him as the sharpest conservative option in a field packed with Republicans all claiming the same label.

Two sitting U.S. senators, Rick Scott of Florida and Mike Lee of Utah, backed Norman’s bid before he even made it official, and Senate Conservatives Fund founder Jim DeMint added his name too.

Norman made his own priorities plain the day he announced, telling Fox News he would be laser focused on passing President Trump’s America First agenda starting with the SAVE America Act.

Norman has never been afraid to break with his own party’s leadership when conservative principles were on the line, and that independence is exactly why the grassroots trust him.

The Endorsements Keep Piling Up Because the Record Speaks for Itself

This past week the National Association for Gun Rights threw its weight behind Norman, and the group didn’t hedge, citing his clean sweep on their candidate survey and his history of never once voting against the Second Amendment.

The gun rights group specifically praised Norman for sponsoring national constitutional carry legislation, the kind of bill that separates lawmakers who talk about the Second Amendment from lawmakers who actually vote for it.

Students for Life has recognized the same pattern, and so have South Carolina Freedom Caucus legislators and grassroots conservative organizations from Rock Hill to Charleston.

Norman entered this race even after President Trump had already endorsed the sitting interim senator, staking out ground to her right by vowing to eliminate the filibuster instead of playing it safe.

That kind of endorsement wave isn’t an accident, it’s what happens when voters can check years of votes and bill sponsorships against a candidate’s promises instead of taking his word for it.

Darline Graham Has No Record Because She Has Never Run for Anything

Compare that to Darline Graham.

Before Governor Henry McMaster appointed her to fill her late brother’s seat, Graham had never run for or held elected office at any level.

She spent her career in vocational rehabilitation and disability services, honorable work, but work that tells South Carolina voters nothing about how she would vote on the issues that matter to them.

Search her political history and one thing turns up, – her donation to pro-abortion former state Senator Katrina Shealy.

Shealy was one of the “sister senators” who joined forces to block South Carolina’s near-total abortion ban in 2023, a stand so unpopular with conservatives that all three of the women involved lost their next primary.

South Carolina pro-life advocates noticed the connection immediately, with prominent advocates for protecting the lives of unborn babies calling out Graham’s support for her pro-abortion friend Katrina Shealy as disqualifying.

A single data point is not a record, but her refusal to adequately address that data point South Carolina voters have on Darline Graham points the wrong direction on a defining issue for conservative voters in this state.

This Race Is About Principles, Not Last Names

America does not have hereditary titles.

Senate seats do not belong to families.

South Carolina voters should not treat this primary as though it does.

Lindsey Graham built a long career in Washington, but that career was often maddeningly inconsistent on America First priorities, and a family name was never a substitute for a voting record then either.

It is not one now.

Voters deserve a senator whose positions they can verify by looking at years of votes, bill sponsorships, and public fights, not a senator whose only claim to office is that the blood coursing through her veins might show she’s Lindsey Graham’s relative.

Ralph Norman gives South Carolina that certainty.

Darline Graham does not.

Our Endorsement

The 247 Politics Editorial Board endorses Ralph Norman for the United States Senate in South Carolina’s August 11 special Republican primary.

He is the only candidate in this race with a documented conservative history, the only one trusted by the Freedom Caucus, gun rights advocates, and pro-life organizers alike, and the only one who has earned this seat rather than inherited a claim to it.

Conservatives built the MAGA and America First movement on principles, and on August 11 those conservatives in South Carolina have the chance to send a proven fighter, not an unproven name, to the United States Senate.

Just under a year ago, on Aug 21, 2025 – and just 20 days before he was murdered – Charlie Kirk told South Carolinians, “you guys need a new senator… Lindsey Graham has got to go.”

We can’t say whether Kirk would have backed Norman in this race or not – Norman after all had announced he was running for Governor about a month prior.

But we’re confident that Kirk did not mean Lindsey Graham’s sister.

Vote Ralph Norman.
