Darline Graham’s Own Campaign Records Just Exposed a Story She Told South Carolina That Has Conservatives Outraged

South Carolina's Sister Senators killed the state's heartbeat bill in 2023 and conservative voters never forgot it.

Now Lindsey Graham’s sister-daughter wants a full Senate term and it turns out she had deep ties to that fight.

And Darline Graham's own campaign records just contradicted the story her ally told conservatives.

The Check Shealy Can't Explain Away

Darline Graham Nordone gave money to South Carolina state Sen. Katrina Shealy.

Shealy tried to wave it off on X as a single friendly gesture, "one and only one" contribution. South Carolina campaign finance records say otherwise.

Shealy was one of the so-called "Sister Senators," a five-woman coalition – three Republicans, a Democrat, and an independent – who filibustered South Carolina's heartbeat bill in 2023.

She later tried to amend the bill that did pass to allow abortion up to twelve weeks.

Shealy and her fellow Republican holdouts lost their own primaries the following year. Graham funded her anyway.

Presidential Endorsement Isn't Moving the Numbers

After Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Graham to finish her late brother's term, Trump endorsed her. A new Emerson College poll released Thursday shows that endorsement isn't doing what Trump's team hoped.

Fifty-three percent of voters say the endorsement makes no difference to their support for Graham. Eighteen percent say it actually makes them less likely to back her.

Graham's strongest support comes from voters over 70, where she pulls 30 percent to Norman's 16 percent. Norman dominates every other age group, running strongest with voters under 50 and in their 50s.

A statement on X doesn't undo a check written to the woman who helped keep South Carolina's abortion mills open past six weeks.

The state GOP has scheduled a primary debate for August 3. Norman has also arranged a separate debate for August 4, giving voters two chances to hear both candidates defend their records before the August 11 vote.

Norman's Record Doesn't Need a Cleanup

Rep. Ralph Norman now leads the crowded GOP primary at 22 percent, with Graham second at 19 percent. Rep. Russell Fry sits at 12 percent, former Gov. Mark Sanford at 11 percent, businessman Mark Lynch at 7 percent, and Danny Ford II at 2 percent. A quarter of likely primary voters remain undecided ahead of the August 11 vote.

Norman doesn't carry any of Graham's abortion baggage. He's built a Heritage Action lifetime score of 98 percent and led the congressional amicus brief backing South Carolina's fight to strip Planned Parenthood of Medicaid dollars in the Supreme Court's Medina case.

He also introduced legislation requiring states to report abortion data to federal health officials as a condition of receiving family planning funds.

Every one of those actions points toward the same babies Shealy's filibuster left unprotected. Norman fought to cut off the abortion industry's money. Graham funded the woman who fought to keep it flowing.

What South Carolina Republicans Are Actually Choosing

This primary was supposed to be a formality – Trump's endorsement, a grieving state, a sister stepping into her brother's seat. Instead it's turning into a test of whether a pro-life litmus test still means anything in South Carolina.

Graham has no political record to run on beyond four months in an appointed seat and one donation trail that leads straight to a senator conservatives never forgave. Norman has a decade of votes, bill sponsorships, and a Supreme Court brief that all point the same direction.

South Carolina Republicans fought for years to protect unborn children under a six-week ban that barely survived its own state Senate. They don't need a senator who quietly bankrolled the resistance while telling voters something different.

They're about to decide whether a famous last name buys a pass that no one else in this race would get.
