Donald Trump wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico
President-elect Donald Trump held a press conference at Mar-a-Lago where he sent the media into a frenzy.
He announced that he wanted to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
“We are going to be changing — the opposite of Biden closing everything up and getting rid of 50 to 60 trillion worth of assets — we’ll be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring,” Trump said. “That covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. It is appropriate. It’s appropriate.”
Trump has been playing hardball with Mexico since the election to get the country to stop the flow of drugs and illegal aliens at the southern border.
“And Mexico has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country,” Trump added.
Democrats and their media allies were caught off guard by the announcement.
They reacted with a mix of confusion and anger.
Maps have used the Gulf of Mexico name dating back to the 1600s.
Changing the name to the Gulf of America would require some logistical work.
Marjorie Taylor Greene gets the ball rolling
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced on social media that she would file a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
She had her staff begin writing the bill after Trump announced the change.
“I was so fired up watching the press conference today when President Trump said that he’s going to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America that I directed my leg staff to immediately draft legislation, and we are entering it right now, to officially change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America,” Greene told conservative podcaster Benny Johnson.
Greene said a bill is needed for the maps and documents that would be affected by the name change.
“Congress has to do this because we have to fund the name change in maps,” Greene explained. “We have to fund the name change through all types of you know, like the military, FAA, etc.”
She pointed out on social media that American taxpayers are picking up the bill to defend the Gulf.
“Mexican cartels currently use the Gulf of Mexico to traffic humans, drugs, weapons, and God knows what else while the Mexican government allows them to do it,” Greene wrote on X. “The American people are footing the bill to protect and secure the maritime waterways for commerce to be conducted. Our U.S. armed forces protect the area from any military threats from foreign countries.”
A Congressional source told Breitbart News there’s growing interest among lawmakers about supporting Greene’s bill.
Donald Trump is already shaking things up in Washington, D.C., and leaving the political establishment flabbergasted.
