Polls showed left-wing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Party headed for a wipeout.
The Liberal Party was set to drop from 153 seats in Parliament to just 9.
That’s an extinction level event for a political party.
Facing a growing internal revolt, Trudeau took the only option available.
Resignation.
“I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister after the party selects its next leader through a robust, nationwide competitive process,” Trudeau said in a press conference.
“This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election,” Trudeau added.
Trump mocked Trudeau’s resignation and reiterated his call for Canada to become the 51st state.
“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned. If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump has spent recent weeks trolling Trudeau, calling him “Governor Trudeau” and warning that Canada faced the prospect of 25 percent tariffs on all goods if the government didn’t get its act in order and secure the northern border to prevent traffickers from smuggling fentanyl into America.
The leader of Canada’s Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, issued a video message to Canadian voters saying Trudeau’s resignation was just a smokescreen and that the Liberal Party supported the same failed socialist policies as Trudeau.
“Nothing has changed,” Poilievre stated. “Every Liberal MP and Leadership contender supported EVERYTHING Trudeau did for 9 years, and now they want to trick voters by swapping in another Liberal face to keep ripping off Canadians for another 4 years, just like Justin.”

Poilievre said Canadians needed to elect the Conservative Party to a majority so it could undo the damage Trudeau inflicted on the country with his Canadian Green New Deal carbon tax.
“The only way to fix what Liberals broke is a carbon tax election to elect common sense Conservatives who will bring home Canada’s promise,” Poilievre added.
Poilievre reminded voters that every Liberal Party Member of Parliament supported Trudeau’s tyrannical agenda – which included freezing the bank accounts of citizens opposed to his COVID vaccine mandate – before they cast their ballots in next year’s election.
“Canadians desperate to turn the page on this dark chapter in our history might be relieved today that Justin Trudeau is finally leaving. But what has really changed?” Poilievre continued.
“Every Liberal MP in power today, and every potential Liberal leadership contender fighting for the top job helped Justin Trudeau break the country over the last 9 years. All Liberal politicians actively worked to pass into law the job killing, inflationary carbon tax,” Poilievre concluded.
