Federal Watchdog Just Exposed Who the United Nations Really Protects in Venezuela

Sep 18, 2026

President Trump ripped nearly a billion dollars in funding from corrupt United Nations agencies earlier this year.

A federal watchdog now says one of those same UN agencies just proved exactly why he did it in Venezuela.

Federal investigators just revealed exactly whose side the United Nations chose in Caracas, and it was not Washington's.

USAID Watchdog Traces Missing Aid Money Straight to Maduro's Government

The USAID Office of Inspector General spent months chasing down what happened to two humanitarian projects worth $900,000 inside Venezuela.

The money was supposed to help people suffering under Nicolas Maduro's economic collapse.

Instead, investigators say a Venezuelan organization tasked with running the projects misappropriated the funds.

American taxpayers are out $393,000.

That is not a rounding error.

That is real money, stolen on Maduro's turf, on Joe Biden's watch, in 2021 and 2022.

UN Handed Its Criminal Findings to Maduro and Locked Out American Investigators

Here is where it gets ugly.

The UN's internal watchdog, the Office of Internal Oversight Services, actually found the fraud.

Instead of handing that evidence to the Americans who put up the money, OIOS turned around and gave its findings straight to Maduro's government while he still ran the country.

That was the same regime the United States never recognized as legitimate, and it still got a look at the file.

American law enforcement did not.

A senior administration official did not mince words, calling it "inexcusable" for the UN and its so-called investigators to treat a dictatorship better than the country writing the checks.

Think about what that means in practice.

Maduro's intelligence services got a road map of exactly how American aid money moved, who touched it, and where the trail went cold, months before his regime came crashing down.

Meanwhile the American investigators trying to recover taxpayer money got stonewalled at every turn.

USAID's inspector general was left with no choice but to close the investigation this month because the UN simply would not cooperate.

Every taxpayer dollar disappeared into a black hole, and the people responsible for finding it now say Maduro knows more than you do.

This Is Exactly Why Trump Pulled America Out of the UN's Rigged System

This is not the first time the UN buried the truth to protect the people paying its bills the least attention.

Ask anyone who lived through Oil-for-Food.

The Heritage Foundation documented how Saddam Hussein looted billions from a UN-run program while UN leadership looked the other way for years.

Caracas is just Baghdad with better weather and a different strongman.

The pattern is not limited to Venezuela, either.

USAID's inspector general is separately expanding a probe into more than 100 UNRWA employees over ties to Hamas and the October 7 massacre – the same UN system, the same instinct to shield the guilty from American scrutiny.

Trump saw this coming a mile away.

On February 4, 2025, he signed an executive order yanking American funding from UN organizations and ordering a full review of every dollar Washington sends to international bodies.

Democrats and the UN's defenders called it reckless.

Turns out it was just accurate.

The UN was never going to police itself when self-policing meant turning on friendly dictators.

Maduro is gone now, captured by U.S. forces in January and hauled to New York to face narcoterrorism charges.

The paper trail still proves the UN chose him over the Americans trying to recover the money he helped bury.
