One word from Musk just wrecked the Democrat's pitch for a European style government.
Talarico's 2024 Interview Comes Back to Haunt His Senate Campaign
James Talarico sat down with a left wing podcast called "The Weekend Show" back in June 2024, long before Texas Democrats handed him a U.S. Senate nomination.
He told host Anthony Davis that America hasn't "lived up to the promise of democracy."
He said the country where the democratic experiment started is now "backsliding."
Then came the line Republicans have waited all week to resurface: "We should look, as Americans, to other countries, especially in Western Europe, for inspiration about how to continue with this experiment."
A state legislator told his country to take governing lessons from Brussels and Berlin.
That clip sat buried for two years until it landed on X this week, and it landed right in front of Elon Musk.
Musk read it, and on September 15 he posted his entire rebuttal in a single word: "No."
No links. No thread. No fifteen part explainer.
Just a man worth hundreds of billions of dollars telling a Senate candidate he's wrong, in a word a toddler could read.
Talarico's campaign spokesman, JT Ennis, scrambled afterward to insist their candidate still believes America is "the greatest country in the world" and Texas is "the greatest state in the union."
Nobody believed it, because the tape doesn't lie and Talarico said what he said on camera.
Musk Has Torched Democrats With Blunt Replies Before
This isn't the first time Musk turned a Democrat's words into a punchline with almost nothing typed at all.
Back in November 2022, Sen. Ed Markey demanded Twitter explain how a reporter had bought a fake verified account impersonating him.
Musk didn't write a policy memo defending his platform.
He told Markey his real account "sounds like a parody" and asked why the senator's profile picture showed him wearing a mask alone in an otherwise empty photo.
Markey never recovered the news cycle that week, and Musk barely broke a sweat doing it.
More recently, in February 2025, Rep. Ro Khanna tried lecturing Musk about congressional authority over DOGE's spending cuts.
Musk's entire reply: "Don't be a d—."
Khanna kept posting anyway. Musk had already moved on.
The pattern is the same every time: a Democrat picks a fight expecting a debate, and Musk answers with a line short enough to screenshot and long enough to end the argument.
Talarico just became the latest name on that list.
Paxton Piles On While Musk's Money Moves Into the Race
Talarico didn't just get hit online this week, he got hit by his opponent in the flesh.
Attorney General Ken Paxton fired back at Talarico after the Democrat tried to paint him as soft on racism following an unrelated controversy at a University of Texas football game.
Paxton turned it around instantly, telling reporters he condemns racism "in all its forms, including James Talarico saying white men are" the problem, and calling Talarico the only candidate in the race "with a history of dividing Texans by race."
Talarico picked the fight and handed his opponent the ammunition to win it.
Musk isn't sitting on the sidelines while this plays out either.
His super PAC is already pouring money into battleground Senate races to help Republicans hold the line this cycle, and Texas is exactly the kind of race that money exists for.
A Democrat who tells America to imitate Europe, running against an attorney general who just used the Democrat's quotes against him, in a state where Musk's political operation is actively spending to stop him, is not a coincidence.
It's a preview of the entire 2026 map.
Talarico wanted a debate about democracy in Europe.
He got a one word verdict from the richest man in the country instead, and the clip isn't going anywhere before November.
