John Fetterman Skipped the Senate Fraud Hearing and Then Proved Rand Paul Completely Right

John Fetterman skipped Wednesday's Senate fraud hearing without saying a word about it.

He wasn't the only Democrat who found somewhere else to be that morning.

Rand Paul looked at the empty chairs and delivered a line Democrats won't be able to shake.

Rand Paul's Committee Called A Hearing And Seven Democrats Sat It Out

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee met Wednesday for a hearing titled "Exposing Fraud in America."

Chairman Rand Paul brought in three witnesses to testify about stolen taxpayer money.

Nick Shirley, James O'Keefe, and Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette detailed schemes draining public programs across the country.

Seven Democrats sat on the committee, and all seven had a standing invitation to attend.

Maggie Hassan, Richard Blumenthal, John Fetterman, Andy Kim, Ruben Gallego, and Elissa Slotkin never walked through the door.

Peters was the only one who showed his face at all.

Rand Paul Answered Bernie Moreno With The Empty Chairs Behind Him

Peters left before Chairman Paul turned to question the witnesses himself.

Senator Bernie Moreno noticed the empty dais and asked Paul about it live on camera.

Moreno asked whether a Democrat should question the witnesses next, and Paul replied, "If there were a Democrat here, yes."

Rep. Lauren Boebert called the absent Democrats "cowards" on social media.

What Democrats Missed While They Skipped The Room

James O'Keefe testified about ballot fraud his team caught on camera in Los Angeles.

His crew recorded 28 separate exchanges of petition circulators offering cash or drugs for ballot signatures.

O'Keefe reminded the empty seats that Washington loves to say "nobody is above the law."

He said that phrase means nothing unless it's actually enforced when it's violated in broad daylight.

Nick Shirley pointed straight at Minnesota, where the daycare fraud scandal keeps expanding by the week.

Shirley said fraud means "money stolen from hardworking, law-abiding, taxpaying citizens."

Investigators have charged dozens of people in the scheme, and prosecutors say more charges are coming.

Officials say much of the stolen money went toward personal enrichment instead of feeding hungry kids.

The Trump administration responded by freezing federal child care payments to Minnesota and launching a fresh Treasury Department probe into where the money actually went.

The Fraud Fight Extends Far Beyond One Hearing Room

FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson said Democratic governors are "trying to protect the fraudsters" by refusing to hand over SNAP recipient data to the Trump administration.

Red states are cooperating with the federal fraud probes – blue states are stonewalling them.

Senate Republicans have already introduced the WALZ Act, targeting welfare fraud and unspent COVID funds worth a combined $240 billion.

One piece alone would claw back more than $65 billion in unused pandemic relief money still sitting on the books.

This Isn't The First Time Democrats Walked Out On An Uncomfortable Vote

Democrats have used the empty-chair play before.

In October 2020, every Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee boycotted the vote to advance Amy Coney Barrett's nomination.

Chuck Schumer said Democrats would not "lend a single ounce of legitimacy" to the process.

Republicans held the vote anyway and confirmed Barrett without a single Democrat in the room.

House Democrats pulled the same move on immigration hearings in 2023, skipping back-to-back border field hearings in Yuma and Pharr, Texas.

The pattern never changes – when the topic gets uncomfortable, Democrats stop showing up.

Rand Paul summed up the whole hearing in one line afterward: "Hard to claim you're fighting waste when you don't even show up."

That line will follow Senate Democrats into every fraud vote between now and the midterms.

The WALZ Act is coming to the floor soon, and Republicans already have the receipts to use against anyone who skips that vote too.

Every witness at Wednesday's hearing went unchallenged by a single Democrat, which means the official record now belongs entirely to Republicans.

Blue-state governors are making the same bet Peters made – that staying quiet costs less than showing up.

Given how the last two boycotts ended, that bet looks worse by the week.
