Maine Democrats just nominated him as the replacement to take on Susan Collins for the Senate.

Troy Jackson was nineteen years old on March 12, 1988.

A Fort Kent police report says he kicked in a door after being told to leave a home.

He grabbed the man inside by the throat and struck him in the face.

Police say Jackson warned the man to stay away from Lana Pelletier "or else."

Jackson was charged with misdemeanor assault.

He settled the case by paying his victim fifty dollars.

Jackson's own statement barely blinks at it – "Nearly 40 years ago, when I was 19 years old, I got into a fight."

Pelletier was Jackson's longtime partner at the time, and she is also his second cousin.

She originally told police Jackson pushed her around that night.

She now says she does not remember making that statement.

Democrats nominated Jackson less than three weeks before this report surfaced.

Fox News is already calling it Platner 2.0.

This Is Not Jackson's Only Anger Problem on the Record

Colleagues in Augusta have accused Jackson of banging tables during arguments.

Female legislators have described him as aggressive toward them in private meetings.

He has been accused of screaming at colleagues who crossed him.

Jackson threw a water bottle during a legislative argument in 2021.

None of that required a police report to notice.

Democrats promoted him to the state's top ticket anyway.

Democrats Already Wrote the Playbook for Burying Abuse Claims

This is not new territory for the party that lectures the country about believing women.

Keith Ellison faced domestic abuse allegations from a former girlfriend back in 2018 while he ran for Minnesota Attorney General.

Party officials reviewed the claims, called them unsubstantiated, and Ellison won anyway.

He served as attorney general for years afterward.

Al Franken resigned over allegations and Democrats cheered his exit as accountability.

Keith Ellison faced worse allegations and Democrats found a way to look past them entirely.

Troy Jackson is getting the Ellison treatment, not the Franken treatment.

The NRSC has already published a "flashback" of Democrats demanding candidates drop out the moment abuse allegations surface.

Every one of those statements was made about a Republican.

Susan Collins was already the top Democrat target in the country heading into November.

Troy Jackson's police report just handed her the easiest contrast of the cycle.

Democrats built their entire case against Collins on character and trust.

They cannot run that campaign next to a nominee who paid his way out of an assault charge.
