Undercover Recording Catches Dan Osborn Admitting Why He Can’t Tell Nebraska Voters His Real Plan

Sep 1, 2026

Dan Osborn built his entire Senate campaign on the promise that he answers to Nebraska, not to Chuck Schumer.

A hidden microphone just caught him explaining exactly why that promise cannot survive contact with the truth.

The tape reveals the one immigration position Osborn openly admits he can never say out loud to voters.

The Quote Osborn Never Wanted Nebraska to Hear On Abolishing ICE

Osborn has spent his campaign posing as a gun-owning, border-securing, common-sense independent who just happens to be running against Republican Senator Pete Ricketts.

Undercover audio obtained by Townhall blows that act apart.

On the recording, Osborn admits he wants to abolish ICE but knows he can never say so publicly.

"I'll be f***ed," Osborn says, describing what would happen if voters heard him say it.

He goes on to admit he needs "probably 10 to 15 percent of Republicans" to win in November, and that saying what he actually believes would cost him those votes.

This is not a man with moderate convictions.

This is a man doing math on how many Nebraska Republicans he can fool.

On the same tape, Osborn tells CNN he agrees with Democrats on codifying Roe v. Wade and hiking taxes on the wealthy.

He says he cannot publicly support letting boys compete in girls' sports, not because he disagrees, but because the position is too radioactive to run on.

Osborn Already Told Democrats His Policies Match Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren

This is not the first time Osborn's mask has slipped.

In an August livestream, host Craig Kaplan asked Osborn point blank whether his policies would stay "consistent" with the rest of the field, a lineup that included Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren style Democrats.

Osborn did not push back on the comparison.

Then Osborn explained the "independent" label himself: over 50 percent of Nebraska is registered Republican, and "they're not ready to vote for a Democrat."

Back in October 2025, at a town hall, Osborn compared modern immigration enforcement to Nazi Germany's persecution of Jews.

"In the 30s it was the Jews," Osborn said. "This, they're using the immigrants."

A separate undercover video obtained by Townhall in July caught a self-described nonpartisan candidate, Caitlin Knutson, saying flatly that Osborn "is a Democrat" and that national Democrats cleared the field so he could run as Nebraska's lone alternative to Ricketts.

When CNN pointed out that Osborn would not be able to sit on Senate committees without caucusing with a party, he did not deny it.

"You say I won't be able to sit on committees but I beg to differ," Osborn said, the kind of confidence a man only has when Chuck Schumer has already made him a promise.

Nebraska Republicans Have Seen This Stealth Democrat Playbook Before

Democrats have run this exact play before, and Nebraska voters should recognize it.

Mitt Romney learned in 2012 that a hidden recorder does not care about a candidate's talking points, and neither does the truth Osborn just handed to every Nebraska Republican weighing his campaign.

Osborn's own words now do what no opposition researcher could ever manufacture.

ActBlue money, a coordinated Democrat field-clearing operation, and a candidate privately bragging about future committee seats are not the marks of an independent.

They are the marks of a Democrat wearing a farmer's jacket, counting on Nebraska Republicans not to listen too closely before November.

This tape did not surface by accident three months before Election Day.

Osborn built a brand over the past year as the union guy who broke with both parties, and one recording just told Nebraska which party he never actually left.

Ricketts now has the one thing every Republican candidate wants against a stealth Democrat, a recording of Osborn admitting the act is an act.

Expect more tape to surface before November, because once one hidden microphone catches a candidate telling the truth, more people who heard it start reaching for their phones.
