Michigan investigators found unregistered semiautomatic weapons and silencers inside a voter registration operation in the weeks before the 2020 election.
President Trump used Thursday night's nationwide address to declassify the GBI Strategies documents Michigan's own Secretary of State kept hidden from the public.
The woman who buried that investigation is now asking Michigan voters to make her governor.
GBI Strategies Ran a Paid Registration Scheme Since 2014
Trump's East Room address covered five areas of alleged election corruption.
One of them was a Michigan operation the Gateway Pundit first exposed back in 2023.
GBI Strategies paid a Muskegon canvasser $1,150 a week to sign up unregistered voters ahead of the 2020 election.
State investigators found matching handwriting on dozens of the registration forms, and many of the listed addresses simply didn't exist.
Investigators also found the operation's Southfield office, run under the front name Empower Michigan, stocked with unsecured guns, including semiautomatics and pistols rigged with silencers.
The same firm had already collected more than $1.5 million from the Doug Jones Senate campaign in 2018.
It was a business model.
Benson Told Michigan There Was No Fraud While Her Own Analyst Called Forms Fake
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson ran Michigan's elections when the GBI Strategies investigation landed on her desk in 2020.
Her own analyst, Corey Ames, was assigned to the case and put it in writing to state police.
Ames stated "a quantity of the forms" they found in their investigation "are clearly fraudulent."
Benson never told Michigan voters that.
Instead, she told the public for months there was no widespread fraud in her state, while her own analyst's file called forms fake.
Benson built her national reputation certifying Michigan's 2020 election results, work that earned her a Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.
A Federal Court Just Blocked the DOJ From Checking Her Work
Trump's Justice Department tried to get ahead of this problem before Thursday's speech.
The push to get that file started with a lawsuit Republican attorney Harmeet Dhillon brought on behalf of the RNC and the Michigan GOP.
A divided panel on the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that the DOJ lacked the authority to force Benson's hand.
Judge Andre Mathis, a Biden appointee, wrote the majority opinion, and Judge R. Guy Cole Jr., a Clinton appointee, joined him.
Judge John Nalbandian, the lone Trump appointee on the panel, dissented.
The ruling means the woman at the center of a buried fraud investigation gets to keep her state's voter rolls sealed from federal review while she campaigns to run the state.
China Sat on 220 Million Stolen Voter Files for Years
Trump did not stop at Michigan.
He told the nation that newly declassified intelligence shows the People's Republic of China ran a years-long operation that harvested 220 million American voter files, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and party affiliation.
Trump said "this data loss presents an unprecedented election security nightmare."
He is ordering the Director of National Intelligence, the DOJ, the FBI, and the CIA to find out who kept that information hidden and why.
Russian hackers breached Illinois's voter database in 2016 and accessed roughly 200,000 registration records, a fact federal investigators confirmed at the time but that took years to fully surface in a Senate Intelligence Committee report.
Arizona was targeted the same summer.
Both times, the public got a watered-down version first and the full scope only came out later, after the political moment had passed.
Trump's declassification order is betting Americans won't accept that pattern a third time.
What This Looks Like Heading Into the Midterms
China moving on 220 million voter files is not an abstract cybersecurity briefing item, it is the same playbook as a Muskegon operation stuffing fake addresses onto registration forms, just run at a nation-state scale.
Both stories share the same villain: officials who had the paperwork proving a problem and chose to sit on it.
Benson isn't just a Secretary of State who missed a warning sign, her own staff wrote it down and she kept campaigning on the opposite claim anyway.
Trump is pushing the SAVE America Act, which would mandate citizenship documentation for voter registration, as the fix for exactly this kind of exposure.
Senate Democrats have filibustered it for months, and Republicans don't have the votes to break it.
With Michigan's governor's race and the 2026 midterms bearing down, Trump just handed Republicans a live argument that the fight over voter rolls in Lansing and Washington is not over.
