Sydney Sweeney Stripped Down Again and Took Aim at the Betting Sites Wagering On War

Oct 13, 2026

American special forces captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro in a daring January raid.

Prosecutors say one soldier on that mission secretly turned it into a jackpot.

Now Sydney Sweeney is calling out the whole racket, and she did it in her underwear.

A Special Forces Soldier Allegedly Bet On the Maduro Raid He Helped Plan

Gannon Ken Van Dyke helped plan and carry out the operation that took Maduro down.

He had been working on the mission since December 8, 2025.

Prosecutors say he opened a Polymarket account in late December, while the operation was still secret.

Then he started betting that U.S. forces would be in Venezuela and that Maduro would be out of power by January 31.

He placed roughly 13 bets, and he had signed nondisclosure agreements.

He allegedly walked away with more than $400,000.

The charges include wire fraud, commodities fraud, and theft of nonpublic government information.

Trump's Justice Department brought the criminal case through U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton's office in Manhattan, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission filed a parallel action.

FBI Director Kash Patel put every clearance holder in the country on notice.

Anyone "cashing in their access and knowledge for personal gain will be held accountable," Patel said.

The men who risked their lives on that raid deserved better than a teammate allegedly treating it like a sportsbook.

Sweeney Saved Her Sharpest Line for the War Bettors

Sweeney's new 30-second spot for the sports prediction app Novig hit her Instagram on October 11.

Wearing nothing but Novig-branded underwear, she opens with a joke about grown men tracking her underwear color in spreadsheets so they can wager on it.

She says she is "flattered."

Then she drops the jokes and goes after the rest of the industry.

"There's insider trading on dictators dying and armies of bots manipulating it all," Sweeney says in the ad.

She follows it with a line about someone in a bathroom stall betting their retirement savings on a war.

That line lands, because the Van Dyke indictment describes insider trading on a dictator's downfall.

The ad closes with Sweeney holding two footballs and a simple promise that Novig is just sports.

The video blew past 17 million views in about two days.

Kalshi and Polymarket Turned War Into a Wager

Kalshi and Polymarket, the two giants of the prediction market business, let users bet on practically anything.

Both have taken heavy fire over markets critics say can be gamed.

Novig pitches itself as a federally regulated, peer-to-peer market built only around sports.

States are not buying the distinction, and Ohio has ordered 10 prediction market companies, Novig and Polymarket included, to stop offering sports contracts there.

Robinhood and Coinbase got letters too, with an October 16 deadline to confirm they had complied.

A unanimous Sixth Circuit panel had already sided with Ohio and Tennessee against Kalshi, ruling that federal commodities law does not override state sports betting laws.

The Woke Critics Who Hated Sydney Sweeney's Jeans Are Back

The first Novig ad dropped in early September and showed Sweeney in a montage of barely-there athletic gear.

A handful of female athletes took to social media to complain that she was sexualizing women's sports.

Novig answered with a sequel.

None of this should surprise anyone who watched the American Eagle fight.

Critics on the left claimed that ad echoed eugenics and tried to turn a pun about jeans into a scandal.

Trump learned Sweeney was a registered Republican and summed up half the country's reaction in six words.

"Oh, now I love her ad," Trump said.

Sweeney figured out what most of Hollywood keeps forgetting – half the country is sick of being lectured, and it shows up for stars who refuse to grovel.

She is not just a hired face either, since Novig's CEO has said she holds an equity stake in the company.

She also runs a lingerie brand, Syrn, so nobody should be shocked by the wardrobe choices.

Sydney Sweeney Said What the Prediction Market Crowd Will Not

Betting your paycheck on a war is sick.

Doing it with classified information in your pocket is something worse.

The prediction market crowd sells that kind of action as harmless fun.

If a soldier inside one of the most sensitive missions in years can allegedly cash in, nobody should pretend these markets police themselves.

Sweeney stood in front of 17 million people and told the truth about it.

That is one movie star and one FBI director on the same side, and on this one they are both dead right.

But if they’re right about that, the same can be said for all so-called prediction markets, including the one that paid Sweeney to say it.
