Biden sat down with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer in 2016 and 2017 to record material for his memoir Promise Me, Dad.

Those recordings sat buried for years while Biden's own lawyers fought a federal lawsuit just to keep the public from hearing them.

Special Counsel Robert Hur cited these same tapes in his 2024 report finding Biden willfully retained classified documents, then declined to bring charges.

On tape, Biden warns Zwonitzer directly that the material he is reading "may be classified," then tells him to "be careful."

In another recording, Biden casually mentions he "just found all the classified stuff downstairs" a month after leaving the vice presidency.

The Oversight Project counted more than two hours and forty five minutes of recordings, riddled with long audio redactions the group says exist for one reason only.

"The listener shouldn't overlook the audio redactions," the group said, explaining the blanks exist to cover classified disclosures.

Those blank spots are not technical glitches.

They are the sound of a former vice president reading national secrets out loud to a private citizen with a book contract.

Oversight Project Forced Two Years of Secrecy Into the Open

The Oversight Project's Mike Howell spent two years suing the Justice Department to pry these tapes loose.

Biden's attorneys fought the release at every turn, then abandoned the fight last week rather than face a judge.

Howell said the tapes confirm what conservatives have long assumed, that the autopen scandal reaches back to well before Biden ever "ran" for president from his basement.

Oversight Project Vice President of Litigation Jeff Clark said the decision to clear Biden "must now be reexamined from top to bottom."

The recordings also capture Biden fumbling for names and dates in real time, the same "poor memory" Hur used to justify walking away from charges.

Compare that to Donald Trump, who faced a federal indictment over documents found at Mar-a-Lago while Biden walked free for the same underlying conduct.

Hur's own report admitted the difference was not the classified material itself, it was that Trump fought the subpoena and Biden did not.

That much tape just proved the sympathetic elderly man excuse was covering for something federal prosecutors call a felony the moment anyone else does it.

California Republican Tom McClintock said it plainly when Hur testified on Capitol Hill in 2024.

He called the prosecution gap between Biden and Trump "an unprecedented assault on our democracy."

That line reads differently now that Biden's own recorded voice confirms exactly what McClintock was describing.

Hur Cleared Biden While Sitting on These Exact Tapes

Merrick Garland's Justice Department built an entire legal shield around a story that was false the moment prosecutors picked up a phone and listened.

Robert Hur heard these same tapes before he ever wrote a word of his report, which means his decision to clear Biden was made with full knowledge of what Biden actually said.

Every reporter who mocked concerns about Biden's garage documents as a right wing conspiracy now has to explain a man on tape describing national secrets stashed in his own house.

This is not a gaffe from a tired old man.

It is a sitting vice president casually handing off national security secrets to a private author for an eight million dollar book advance.

Somewhere in Florida tonight, Donald Trump's lawyers are reading these transcripts and asking the same question millions of Americans are asking, why did one man get a mugshot and the other got a book tour.
