Democrats renew calls for censorship
Just like after the 2016 election, Democrats are blaming Donald Trump’s win on too much free speech allowed on social media.
Elon Musk purchasing Twitter in 2022 and firing all the censors may have been the moment Trump actually won the 2024 election.
Musk buying Twitter led to a domino effect where YouTube and Instagram reinstated Donald Trump’s accounts after banning them following the events of January 6.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg also said his platform was out of the political censorship game.
Democrats know this is the case, but are casting about with how to deal with the fact that their ideological allies no longer have their finger on the censor buttons on social media.
Jen Psaki adopted an extreme position on Katie Couric’s podcast and also proved she didn’t learn anything from the 2024 election.
Psaki complained that too many Americans no longer get their news from regime-approved leftist sources like the New York Times and CNN.
Polls show record low trust in the media because of all the misinformation outlets like the Times and CNN spread.
That led to Americans getting more news from podcasts and social media platforms like X, which Psaki falsely claimed were filled with “disinformation.”
“One of the things that’s changed even since I got involved in politics is just the rise of the percentage of people who get their information off of platforms that have no fact checking mechanism and no accountability for having disinformation spread,” Psaki ranted.
Psaki whined that the laws in place held traditional media outlets to higher standards of accountability than social media.
“Local TV is held to a higher standard of accountability than social media platforms in terms of accurate information on their platforms. That is crazy!” Psaki added.
Psaki then called on the government to pass laws imposing censorship of anyone who spreads ‘misinformation’ – i.e. any viewpoint that dissents from Democrat Party dogma.
“Laws have to change. I don’t even know the entire answer to it but that seems to me to be a core issue,” Psaki concluded.
The Left’s Joe Rogan problem
In the post-election aftermath, Democrats are confronting what they see as their Joe Rogan problem.
Democrats wondered how they could create their own Joe Rogan.
But the Left once had their own Joe Rogan.
And it was Joe Rogan.
Rogan was a “Bernie bro” who never wanted Trump on his show.
Leftists like Psaki pushed Rogan out of the coalition with their support for transgender ideology and support for online censorship.
In 2022, Psaki stood behind the podium at the White House press briefing room and called on Spotify to remove Rogan’s podcast from their platform over Rogan correctly questioning the COVID vaccine.
“This disclaimer is a positive step, but we want every platform to continue doing more to call out mis- and disinformation while also uplifting accurate information,” Psaki stated.
“Our view is it’s a good step,” Psaki added. “It’s a positive step, but there’s more that can be done.”
If Jen Psaki is worried about online misinformation, then all Jen Psaki needs to do is look in the mirror and examine her own social media use.
