Hillary Clinton Tried to Mock Trump Renaming Lake Ontario and the White House Made Sure She Regretted It Fast

Trump renamed Lake Ontario Lake America right in the middle of his trade war with Canada.

Hillary Clinton could not resist firing off a public jab at him over it.

Her post lasted online just long enough to blow up in her face.

Clinton's Two Word Post Landed Then Disabled Its Own Replies

Clinton's entire contribution to the debate was two words: "It's Lake Ontario."

She posted it Thursday.

She also turned off replies before anyone could answer her.

That did not stop the internet.

Her post crossed three million views within hours anyway.

Conservative radio host Vince Coglianese summed up the mood in five words: "Hillary's out here shooting blanks."

He was not alone.

Republicans Lined Up to Remind Her How 2016 Ended

Activist CJ Pearson went straight for the jugular.

"It's not President Hillary Clinton…and never will be," he wrote.

The Republican National Committee's account chimed in with three flat words: "It's President Donald J. Trump."

Sen. Marsha Blackburn made sure nobody missed the point.

"And you'll never be President," the Tennessee Republican posted.

Commentator Michael Knowles zeroed in on the bigger irony.

"Democrats preferring Canada to America is the least surprising thing I've seen all day," he wrote.

Tricia McLaughlin, a former Trump DHS official, mocked Clinton with a joke about how outmatched she was.

"Trump Controls the News Cycle Volume 87187585124782," McLaughlin posted.

Commentator Jillian King Anderson did not even bother with a full sentence.

"Loser says what?" she wrote.

Every reply hit the same nerve.

Clinton picked a fight over a lake and lost it to her own résumé.

None of these accounts belong to random trolls.

Blackburn sits in the United States Senate.

The RNC runs the party currently occupying the White House.

Clinton picked a fight with people who actually hold power, using a Truth Social era one liner against opponents who've spent a decade sharpening theirs.

She brought a butter knife to a gunfight and then acted surprised when it didn't cut.

Trump Never Hid Why He Picked This Fight

Trump was not shy about explaining his own motives once the mockery started rolling in.

"Canada has been ripping us off for a long time on trade," he said.

"The Lake of America was something I've been thinking about for a long time, actually," Trump added.

That trade fight is not small talk.

His administration has slapped 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods, and the lake rename landed right in the middle of that standoff.

Clinton picked the exact week Trump wanted Americans talking about Canada to hand him a viral win instead of a policy fight.

Trump Baits Democrats Into This Trap Every Single Time

This is not Clinton's first swing at Trump that landed on her own chin.

Fox News flagged the four year anniversary of her infamous "future is female" birthday tweet, a post so cringe-inducing that conservatives still mock it every time it resurfaces.

She also tried mocking Trump's letter-writing habits with a Jimmy Kimmel joke about a Turkey letter, and that dig backfired almost instantly too.

There's a pattern here, and it is not subtle.

He did the same thing with the Gulf of Mexico, and Democrats spent that entire news cycle mocking a name change while Trump's base spent it feeling like America was finally being put first again.

Clinton walked into the exact same trap.

She thinks she's landing a punch on Trump.

She's actually reminding sixty five million Americans why they didn't vote for her twice.

Every time she surfaces to score a point, the internet drags out 2016 like it happened yesterday.

That's not bad luck.

That's a losing candidate who still hasn't learned that the country moved on without her.

Trump knows exactly what he's doing every time he signs one of these renaming orders, handing the left a shiny, silly-sounding target and watching them chase it on camera while the actual policy underneath moves untouched.

While Clinton and her allies were busy typing two word comebacks about a lake, Trump's trade fight with Canada kept right on moving.

The renaming was never really about the lake.

It was bait, and Hillary Clinton bit down harder than anyone else in the country.
