Florida DSA Candidate Angie Nixon Wants Senator Ashley Moody in Jail Over a Report a Judge Erased

Oct 17, 2026

Sunshine State Democrat US Senate nominee Angie Nixon told a national television audience she wants her Republican opponent locked up.

Nixon did not hesitate when CNN's Kasie Hunt pushed her to confirm why.

The card-carrying Democratic Socialists of America member’s excuse traces back to a sealed report a judge just nullified.

Nixon Accuses Moody of Diverting Ten Million Medicaid Dollars to DeSantis Allied PACs

On CNN's The Arena, Angie Nixon said Ashley Moody should be "locked up and punished in jail for what she has done."

Host Kasie Hunt asked her directly whether she wants her opponent jailed.

Nixon answered, "Yeah, basically, yes."

Her accusation: a $10 million Medicaid settlement Moody's office approved as attorney general eventually helped fund a political committee that fought a 2024 ballot amendment, after passing through the Hope Florida Foundation and two other nonprofits.

Nixon calls that theft and wants a Senate seat so she can personally investigate a case she has no prosecutorial role in.

Moody's campaign calls it a stretch, pointing out the settlement was negotiated years earlier by career agency lawyers, with nothing showing Moody ever directed where the money would end up.

A DeSantis Appointed Judge Erased the Grand Jury Report Nixon Wants Made Public

Nixon told CNN that a state appeals court recently blocked that grand jury report from ever reaching the public, and that the judge who made the call was a DeSantis appointee.

No charges have been filed against Moody, and no report has surfaced to back up what Nixon is implying on national television.

That has not stopped Nixon from treating a sealed document she has not read as a conviction she is entitled to enforce herself.

A Democratic Socialist Discovers That Jail Has Its Uses

Nixon is a card carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, and her platform calls for ending all deportations, pulling money out of the military budget, and a government run universal healthcare system.

Bernie Sanders endorsed her campaign in August, saying the fight against Moody and "her billionaire friends" "will not be easy" but that Democrats "will win this fight" if working people stand together.

Moody's campaign has accused Nixon of wanting to defund the police, a label Nixon rejects on camera while running on a platform built around the belief that the criminal justice system itself is the problem, not the individual sitting inside it.

That same candidate went on CNN and asked America to lock up a sitting United States senator because she disagrees with how a settlement was spent.

Democrats treated "lock her up" chants about Hillary Clinton as proof of a threat to democracy itself throughout the Trump era.

Now one of their own candidates has told CNN, on camera, without blinking, that she wants her opponent locked up.

The difference was never the rhetoric.

It is who gets to use it.

A sealed grand jury report is not a jail sentence, and Nixon knows the difference even while she blurs it for a national television audience.

Nixon is running behind in a race Democrats already consider a reach, and a DSA backed socialist trailing a sitting senator does not usually get to CNN by talking about grand jury procedure.

She gets there by promising to put the other side in a cell.

Demanding a jail cell for a political opponent on national television is something else entirely, and it says more about Nixon's own instincts than it does about Moody's record.
