The “very fine people” hoax debunked once and for all
One of the big lies the media used to smear Donald Trump was the false claim that Donald Trump called neo-Nazi “very fine people.”
The lie began after a so-called “Unite the Right” rally held in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned deadly when a protester ran over a liberal counter protester named Heather Heyer and killed her.
Organizers staged the rally to protest the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee.
Journalists attacked everyone at the rally as a white supremacist because a group of anti-Semites chanted, “Jews will not replace.”
A subsequent news conference was where the “very fine people” hoax originated.
Nearly seven years later, and just prior to the first debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the left-wing fact-checking site Snopes finally admitted that Trump supposedly calling neo-Nazis “very fine people” was a lie.
“In a news conference after the rally protesting the planned removal of a Confederate statue, Trump did say there were ‘very fine people on both sides,’ referring to the protesters and the counterprotesters. He said in the same statement he wasn’t talking about neo-Nazis and white nationalists, who he said should be “condemned totally,” a Snopes factcheck read.
What Trump actually said
Snopes provided a transcript of Trump’s remarks from August 15, 2017.
Trump clearly indicated he separated people who just showed up to protest yanking down the Robert E. Lee statue from any groups identifying themselves as neo-Nazis.
“Excuse me, they didn’t put themselves down as neo-Nazis, and you had some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group — excuse me, excuse me, I saw the same pictures as you did — you had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name,” Trump began.
Trump also made it perfectly obvious that he condemned any Neo-Nazis saying, “And I’m not talking about the Neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.”
Nevertheless, the media and the Democrat Party let the fiction continue for years that Trump called neo-Nazis “very fine people.”
Joe Biden even made the Charlottesville hoax a foundation of his 2020 Presidential campaign.
Biden claimed Trump’s conduct after Charlottesville was why he ran for President.
“Joe Biden’s first two words in his campaign launch video last April were ‘Charlottesville, Virginia,’ as he invoked the racial violence that shocked the country two years ago and seemed to shape his thinking on how to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020,” NBC News reported in the leadup to the 2020 election.
The big question about this story now is why the media took so long to admit to the “very fine people” hoax, and why now?
