DNC Chairman Ken Martin Claims Democrats Are Fully United While His Own Party Melts Down Around Him

DNC Chair Ken Martin defended Zohran Mamdani's refusal to condemn the phrase "globalize the intifada" by calling his own party a "big tent."

Now Martin is back on camera insisting Democrats are unified, just weeks after Axios reported his own colleagues on Capitol Hill are ducking questions about him.

He told voters there's "no more Democrat on Democrat violence," and that claim alone should make you wonder what he's hiding.

Martin Says GOP Is Just Spreading Fear About Socialists

Martin sat for an interview last week and delivered his verdict on his own party.

He said Republicans are using "fear" that Democrats are secretly socialists.

He insisted the differences inside his coalition are "small."

He said it with a straight face days after the Democratic Socialists of America notched fresh primary wins across the country.

He said it while Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon keeps publicly needling DNC leadership from the left.

He said it while Zohran Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist now sitting atop New York politics, was still fielding questions about the antisemitic slogan his own DNC chair had just defended.

Small differences.

A Party Whose Own Chairman Can't Keep His Story Straight

Martin's "united" routine is not new for him.

Axios reported back in March that Martin's own dysfunction was alarming fellow Democrats.

Axios reported again in July that his own party's members on Capitol Hill are avoiding questions about him entirely.

By May, Axios was describing an open Democratic "civil war" over Martin's leadership heading into 2028 planning.

Salon's own July headline said it plainly: Martin was "under fire and melting down."

This is a man who can't manage his own committee promising the country he has the party's ideological wings under control.

Bernie Sanders got booed off a convention stage in 2016 the last time Democrats tried to sell "unity" this hard.

Party chairs reach for "big tent" as a talking point precisely when the tent is on fire, not when it's calm.

Every operative in Washington knows the line means the opposite of what it says.

The Socialist Wing Is Not a Small Difference

Call it what it is.

The Democratic Socialists of America just won contested primaries against establishment-backed Democrats in multiple races this cycle.

Mamdani wouldn't denounce "globalize the intifada" when reporters pressed him on it – he said mayors shouldn't "police speech."

Martin's response to that was to wave the whole controversy away as part of his "big tent."

That is not a small difference from Chuck Schumer's wing of the party.

That is two different parties wearing the same donkey pin.

Martin knows this.

He watched Bernie-aligned candidates and DSA-backed insurgents beat Democrats his own machine recruited.

Why Martin Keeps Selling a Lie His Own Members Won't Repeat

Ken Martin isn't confused about his party.

He's managing a hostage situation and calling it a family reunion.

A chairman who tells voters his socialists and his moderates have "small differences" is either lying to you or lying to himself, and neither one should run a national party heading into the midterms.

Democrats spent a decade lecturing the country about existential threats to democracy while their own chairman wouldn't even press a fellow Democrat to denounce a phrase tied to political violence overseas.

The DSA doesn't think the differences are small – they think they're winning, and their primary record says they're right.

Hill Democrats aren't rallying behind Martin either – they're dodging questions about him, which is its own answer.

When your own base is bragging about a hostile takeover and your own colleagues won't defend you on camera, "big tent" isn't a strategy.

It's a hospice note read out loud with a smile.
