The liberal media bias in the 2024 election is reaching comical levels.
Some members of the press still have the ability to recognize reality.
And now Chris Cuomo came clean with the biggest mistake the media makes about Trump supporters.
Chris Cuomo says media keeps getting Trump supporters wrong
Now that Chris Cuomo is no longer on CNN, he’s like a different media personality altogether.
When Cuomo hosted his shows on CNN, he gladly played the role of anti-Trump resistance scold.
Cuomo bashed Trump on a nightly basis as there was no outrage too small to get CNN’s liberal audience all fired up.
But CNN fired Cuomo over a scandal involving his behind-the-scenes work to coordinate messaging with his brother, then-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Now that Cuomo is a host on NewsNation – a cable news network started by Dan Abrams that strives to play it down the middle – Cuomo is no longer aiming to please liberal bosses or his audience.
During a recent podcast, Cuomo admitted the media let their hatred of Trump cloud their ability to honestly cover his supporters.
Cuomo explained that what attracted Trump’s 74,000,000 voters to his candidacy was the shared sense that liberal elites wielded unchecked power in American life and used their cultural dominance to crush opposition to their woke agenda.
Members of the media are part of that liberal elite that Trump’s base scorns.
And the press allowed the belief to take hold that since liberals all claimed Trump was a racist, that means everyone who voted for Trump is a racist.
“Man, if you want to punish, Trump is your boy. He is the spirit animal of grievance. Something that we keep getting wrong in the media, and I think a lot of us just in general, is that you think people who support Trump are like Trump, and that’s not true,” Cuomo began.
Cuomo explained that Trump voters want change to a system they see as rigged and Trump is the vehicle to bring about that change.
“Most of the people who support Trump are desperate to change the system, and they are willing to swallow everything that he isn’t because of what he is — which is a disruptive force of what they want changed,” Cuomo added.
The media still can’t get past the basket of deplorables
In the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton famously smeared half of all Trump supporters as irredeemable racists who belonged in the “basket of deplorables.”
Cuomo said he believed the press needs to move past that framing of Trump supporters.
“Doesn’t mean that they’re just all bigots or that they all act like him or think like him or sound like him. They just want what he’s selling them, which is to change, disrupt and break the system,” Cuomo continued.
While Cuomo still remained skeptical of Trump’s ability to bring about that change, Cuomo said it was time for the media to put the editorializing aside and stop trying to influence the voter’s decision.
“Will he do it? I don’t think so, but that doesn’t matter. That’s for you to decide. That’s for all the voters to decide.” Cuomo concluded.
One of the problems with the media buying into the lie that Donald Trump is the modern-day Hitler is how it distorts their field of vision.
There is no way the press can look at Trump as the personification of evil in the modern world and not think the people who support him are enabling what they view as an existential menace.
That mindset pits the press against the voters who then get cast as the villains in the story.
And it’s impossible for the media to maintain any credibility or objectivity when it sees 74,000,000 of their fellow Americans as the enemy within.
