Adam Schiff led the first impeachment of Donald Trump in 2019.
Now Schiff says he would do it again if Democrats retake Congress next year.
But federal investigators are already digging through paperwork with Schiff's name on it.
Schiff Won't Rule Out Impeaching Trump Again
Sen. Adam Schiff sat down with Kristen Welker on Meet the Press and let the quiet part out loud.
Welker asked him point blank whether Trump has committed impeachable offenses.
Schiff did not say no.
He said Democrats should not "prejudge the outcome before you even do the oversight."
He said any corruption investigation into Trump "will lead wherever it leads."
That is senator-speak for keeping the door wide open while pretending his hand is still on the knob.
An election model from Rasmussen puts Democrats within real range of flipping the House next November.
The Senate acquitted Trump both times Democrats tried this, in 2020 and again in 2021.
That track record has not stopped Schiff from treating impeachment like a rerun button he gets to push whenever the voters give him the remote.
Democrats already showed their hand once this term when Rep. Yassamin Ansari and twelve House colleagues filed articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in April 2026.
The Pentagon's response summed up the whole pattern: press secretary Kingsley Wilson called it "just another charade."
Schiff told Welker his real priority is lowering costs for Americans, yet fellow Democrats could not wait three months into this term before filing impeachment paperwork instead.
The Mortgage Paperwork Federal Investigators Are Chasing
Here is what Schiff left out of his Sunday morning audition for impeachment chairman.
Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte sent the Department of Justice a criminal referral accusing Schiff of falsifying bank documents and property records.
The allegation covers a Potomac, Maryland home Schiff and his wife bought in 2003 for $870,000 with a Fannie Mae-backed loan.
Refinancing paperwork in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 kept certifying that Maryland house as their primary residence.
At the same time, Schiff was claiming a Burbank, California condo as his primary residence too, which Pulte says shaved seven thousand dollars off his property tax bill.
Pulte's letter says the pattern could violate federal wire fraud, mail fraud and bank fraud statutes.
A Fannie Mae financial crimes memo cited in the referral goes further, describing "a sustained pattern of possible occupancy misrepresentation" across five separate loans.
Back in 2023, a spokesperson for Schiff put it plainly: "Adam's primary residence is Burbank, California, and will remain so when he wins the Senate seat."
That statement does not square with a decade of refinancing paperwork listing Potomac as his primary home.
Laura Ingraham reported that the U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland is conducting a criminal investigation into possible mortgage fraud charges against Schiff.
Schiff's camp has never given a straight answer, just a claim that both homes were occupied year round.
The Senator Running Oversight While Under Investigation Himself
Schiff wants voters to believe his comeback tour is about affordability, not vengeance.
Democrats have had years to build a message beyond Trump and they keep wandering back to impeachment anyway.
A senator who cannot account for two decades of mortgage paperwork is now asking Americans to trust him with subpoena power over the president.
Hand Schiff the gavel and the country does not get oversight, it gets the same senator from 2019 walking into the hearing room with an open federal case file trailing behind him.
