Letitia James was one of the Democrats tasked with waging lawfare against Donald Trump.
James tried to bankrupt Donald Trump with a civil fraud suit.
But now Letitia James is going to hate what Democrats admit in private about her.
Democrats admit cases against Donald Trump are a sham
The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman told Times podcaster Ezra Klein that Democrats are now starting to admit to her that the New York cases against Trump were bogus and backed up Trump’s claims that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and their allies weaponized the Justice System against him.
“And I think that he has gone from — some of what he is saying about some of these cases are statements that privately I’ve heard Democrats make as well, at least in the cases in New York. There are a lot of Democrats who were uncomfortable with the [New York] attorney general’s civil suit into his business or uncomfortable with the prosecution over the Stormy Daniels case, for which he was convicted,” Haberman stated.
The facts of both cases are too obvious to deny.
Democrat Judge Arthur Engoron awarded Letitia James a $464 million judgment against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization for her civil fraud suit.
James used New York’s overly broad civil fraud statute to sue Donald Trump and the Trump Organization for fraud, despite no one actually being defrauded.
In the lawsuit, James claimed Trump inflated the values of his property to obtain favorable loan terms from Deutsche Bank.
But Trump paid back all of his loans and Deutsche Bank made money on the deals.
Both of those are impossible to achieve if a loan is obtained fraudulently, as the borrower not having the money to pay back the loan is why they commit fraud in the first place.
Critics argued James filed her civil fraud suit as punishment for Donald Trump winning the 2016 election.
James campaigned in 2018 for New York Attorney General on an explicit platform of using the office to target Donald Trump.
False fraud and falsification
James made good with the civil fraud suit.
But the New York Court of Appeals sounded ready to throw the case out, as letting the verdict stand would mean the Attorney General would have unlimited power to punish businesses just because they didn’t like the owner.
Likewise, Alvin Bragg campaigned for Manhattan District Attorney, pitching himself to voters as the best one to put Donald Trump in jail.
Like James, Bragg set about fabricating charges where no criminal activity existed to charge Donald Trump with 34 felony counts in a preposterous falsification of business records case where Bragg – despite having no authority to do so – prosecuted Donald Trump for imaginary federal campaign finance violations.
A rigged judge and a rigged jury convicted Trump in a rigged show trial.
Like the civil fraud witch hunt, these sham charges will never stand up on appeal.
But upholding a verdict, or collecting a judgment, were never really the goals.
The true purpose of these persecutions was tarnishing Donald Trump in the eyes of voters to render him unelectable.
But with under a week to go before the election, Donald Trump is the favorite to achieve victory.
Now Democrats are coming to grips with a failed strategy.
