A Staten Island Crowd Instantly Shut Mamdani Down With Boos for Trying to Speak at NYPD Night Out

Zohran Mamdani has spent months picking fights with the NYPD.

On Tuesday night the police and their neighbors picked a fight back.

Mamdani lasted less than a minute before he ran off stage.

NYPD Night Out Crowd Turns On Mamdani In Staten Island

More than 3,500 people packed Midland Beach in Staten Island for the 43rd annual National Night Out Against Crime.

Mamdani showed up late.

He walked toward the microphone anyway.

The crowd didn't wait for him to finish a sentence.

Boos rolled through the audience the second he opened his mouth.

People shouted for him to leave.

Some used language you can't print in a newspaper.

Mamdani managed one line – "Happy Night Out Against Crime. It's amazing to be here for the Staten Island community." – before the jeering drowned him out completely.

He didn't finish his remarks.

He turned and walked off, less than sixty seconds after he arrived at the microphone.

Snowballgate And The Knife Attack Set The Stage For This

This didn't happen in a vacuum.

Mamdani's relationship with the NYPD has been ice cold since officers were pelted with snowballs earlier this year and the mayor's office response was widely seen as siding with the crowd instead of the cops.

Manhattan Institute fellow Rafael Mangual says Mamdani is comfortable being the department's adversary, not its ally.

"I do think that Zohran Mamdani is OK with being an opponent and a critic of the NYPD," Mangual said.

Mangual also warned that officers are getting the message loud and clear: this administration does not have their back.

That breeds a more reluctant police force, exactly when the city needs cops willing to do their jobs.

The NYPD's own police union says Mamdani is putting cops in danger after he publicly called for protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the city.

PBA President Patrick Hendry didn't mince words: Mamdani's "activist posturing puts police officers on the street in a terrible position."

Staten Island remembered all of it on Tuesday night.

Off-duty officers and their families stood in that crowd too, and they didn't hold back.

Chants calling for Mamdani to leave started within seconds and never let up.

By the time he reached the stage, there was no version of that speech that was going to land.

This Follows Him Everywhere Now

Staten Island wasn't a one-off.

Mamdani has been heckled at a Passover seder and turned into a viral punching bag at his own press conferences.

More than 77,000 people have now signed a petition demanding he stay away from the 25th anniversary 9/11 ceremony, citing his past comments and ties to figures linked to terrorism.

Families who lost loved ones on 9/11 do not want him anywhere near that stage either.

Add that to a police union that is furious with him and a city that just booed him into a hasty retreat, and a pattern starts to look less like bad luck and more like a verdict.

New Yorkers keep showing up to tell this mayor the same thing in different rooms.

He keeps not listening.

Mamdani Lost The Room And Everyone Saw It

You cannot spend a year treating the NYPD like the enemy and then walk into a room full of cops and their families expecting applause.

Mamdani found that out in real time, in front of thousands of people, on video that is never going away.

The people who showed up to celebrate the police weren't a fringe group – they were parents, neighbors, and off-duty officers who have watched this mayor side against them again and again.

Mangual's theory is that Mamdani is fine playing the NYPD's opponent because it serves his politics.

Tuesday night wasn't theory, it was thousands of his own constituents making the call for him themselves.

A mayor doesn't get chased off a stage by people who still believe in him.

Staten Island didn't debate Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday night.

They told him to leave, and he did exactly that.
