North Carolina Supreme Court keeps Robert F. Kennedy’s name off the ballot
Democrats claim to be the party of democracy.
That’s hard to square with their actions.
Robert F. Kennedy dropped out of the race for President and endorsed Donald Trump.
That should have ended any talk of Robert F. Kennedy appearing on the debate stage.
But Democrats had other ideas.
Democrats fought to keep Robert F. Kennedy on the ballot even though he’s no longer a candidate in this race.
That’s because Democrats think he will take votes away from Donald Trump.
Robert F. Kennedy sued to remove his name from the ballot.
In a 4-3 decision, the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled that the state needed to remove Kennedy’s name from the ballot.
The Supreme Court’s order
The North Carolina Supreme Court ruled that taking Kennedy’s name off the ballot would present voters with an “accurate” choice of candidates.
“To protect this important right, the elections process should ensure that voters are presented with accurate information regarding the candidates running for an elected office,” the court ruled.
The court explained that keeping Kennedy’s name on the ballot would mislead voters into thinking their vote for Kennedy would count towards a viable candidate.
“Where a ballot contains misleading information or inaccurately lists the candidates, it risks interfering with the right to vote according to one’s conscience.”
“We decline to grant defendants extraordinary relief when they are responsible for their own predicament,” the order added.
The Supreme Court admitted that this order would require North Carolina to print up new ballots which will delay the early voting period by a week.
“We acknowledge that expediting the process of printing new ballots will require considerable time and effort by our election officials and significant expense to the State,” the court continued.
But the majority ruled that giving voters the most accurate ballot about which candidates were actually running for President was more important.
“But that is a price the North Carolina Constitution expects us to incur to protect voters’ fundamental right to vote their conscience and have that vote count,” the order stated.
The Democrat Party’s idea of democracy is tilting the rules in their favor to make sure they win.
That’s different from the American people’s generally understood concept of democracy, which is that the voters head to the polls to cast a ballot and that the majority wins out.
If Robert F. Kennedy was hurting Kamala Harris, the Democrat Party would be trying to kick him off the ballot like they are third party candidates Jill Stein and Cornel West.
