The CIA Took Back 40 Document Boxes Amid COVID Investigation and Nobody Is Explaining Why

May 15, 2026

Everyone covered the whistleblower.

Nobody is asking what was in the boxes.

When the CIA shut down the ODNI's COVID origins investigation, agents showed up and took back 40 boxes of documents — and what those files contained is something the agency still refuses to discuss.

CIA Whistleblower James Erdman Testifies COVID Lab Leak Was Buried by His Own Agency

James Erdman III is not a conspiracy blogger.

He is a two-decade CIA veteran, a former Army Ranger, and a senior operations officer who led the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's own investigation into COVID's origins under DNI Tulsi Gabbard.

He testified under oath this week – under subpoena from Sen. Rand Paul – before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

What he told that room was devastating.

CIA scientific analysts concluded multiple times between 2021 and 2023 that a lab leak was the most likely origin of COVID-19.

Their conclusions went nowhere.

Instead, Erdman testified, CIA managers retaliated against those same analysts for refusing to align their findings with what management wanted.

"CIA managers retaliated against analysts for their refusal to agree with management's middle-of-the-night anonymous review," Erdman told senators.

The retaliation ran deeper than performance reviews.

Personnel inside the ODNI who were actively investigating COVID's origins under a presidential directive had their phones and computers illegally monitored by the CIA – the very agency they were probing.

One CIA contractor was fired the day after meeting with Erdman's investigative team.

"These were Americans being spied upon illegally while executing duties directed by the president and under the director of National Intelligence," Erdman said under oath.

How Fauci Used Gain-of-Function Allies to Hijack the CIAs COVID Origins Investigation

Here is the part that should make your blood boil.

When Sen. Paul asked Erdman directly whether Fauci influenced the CIA's assessment of the lab leak, Erdman answered without hesitation.

"It was significantly influenced by Anthony Fauci, injecting himself into the IC."

Fauci didn't just push a narrative on television.

He handed CIA officials a curated list of scientists – his scientists, the ones already publicly committed to the natural-origins theory – and the agency leaned on them to shape its conclusions.

Those scientists later received exceptional performance reviews and bonuses.

The analysts who kept concluding a lab leak was most likely? Retaliated against.

Sen. Josh Hawley put it plainly after the testimony: "He helped fund the Wuhan lab. He supported and funded gain-of-function research, and then he tried to cover it up from the American people."

It's sworn congressional testimony from an active CIA officer who ran the investigation himself.

Fauci’s Statute of Limitations Expired and David Morens Is Already Indicted

The timing of this hearing was no accident.

Just two days before Erdman took that oath, the five-year statute of limitations expired on charging Anthony Fauci for lying to Congress about NIH-funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

On May 11, 2021, Fauci told the Senate under oath that the NIH had never funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.

A 2023 Government Accountability Office report found that NIH funded genetic experiments there that combined bat coronaviruses with SARS and MERS viruses, creating hybridized coronavirus strains.

The DOJ – under two separate attorneys general – let the clock run out.

Fauci also holds a Biden preemptive pardon of questionable validity – issued via autopen on Biden's final day in office, with no documented evidence Biden personally reviewed or signed it.

Fauci's top advisor, David Morens, was not so lucky.

Morens was indicted on April 28 on charges including conspiracy against the United States, destruction and falsification of federal records, and concealment of documents.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that Morens and co-conspirators "deliberately concealed information and falsified records in an effort to suppress alternative theories regarding the origins of COVID-19."

Conversations that belonged on official government systems were routed through personal Gmail accounts to keep them out of reach of FOIA requests.

The scheme came with a kickback: a co-conspirator reportedly shipped wine to Morens' Maryland home as thanks for what their emails described as "behind-the-scenes shenanigans," with additional promises of dinners at Michelin-starred restaurants in Paris, New York, and Washington.

That co-conspirator matches the public description of EcoHealth Alliance's then-president Peter Daszak – the man whose organization funneled U.S. taxpayer money directly to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Not One Senate Democrat Showed Up for the CIA COVID Cover-Up Hearing

Not a single Senate Democrat showed up for James Erdman's testimony.

Not one.

The CIA called the hearing "dishonest political theater masquerading as a congressional hearing."

Rand Paul responded with what should be framed and hung in every newsroom in America: "Closed-door testimony doesn't provide oversight. Public testimony provides oversight."

The CIA's statement did not address Erdman's specific allegations about the illegal monitoring of investigators, the firing of a CIA contractor, or the 40 boxes the agency quietly clawed back.

Those boxes contained JFK assassination files and MKUltra documents – materials Gabbard's team was actively processing for public release under a presidential declassification directive.

The CIA took them back.

You are not supposed to ask why.

Erdman also testified that the CIA and State Department are actively withholding documents from Gabbard's ongoing declassification effort – an effort ordered directly by the president.

The pattern here is the same one Americans lived through for four years: questions suppressed, questioners punished, and the people running the cover-up collecting bonuses while the clock ran out.

The only questions left are what's in those 40 boxes – and whether any state prosecutors have the spine to bring charges against Fauci since they’re not bound by the statute of limitations on his lies to Congress or the dubious Biden pardon.
