Tim Walz once fumbled loading his own shotgun trying to look like a hunter.
Now Democrats are running the same play with a fresh batch of supposed tough guys.
What one Senate hopeful did to prove he was a man will make you cringe.
The Atlantic Announces Democrats Are Discovering Men Again
The Atlantic published a piece this week called "The Return of the Democratic Manly Man."
The headline alone gives away the game.
You cannot "return" to something unless you already ran away from it.
The article's star is Brian Poindexter, a union ironworker running for Congress in Ohio's 7th District.
Poindexter's own defense of himself was simple: he sees nothing wrong with being seen as masculine, plain and simple.
A Democratic Party operative reportedly pitched the piece by describing a half-dozen candidates as showing up in male-coded social settings.
Try describing yourself that way at a deer camp and see how fast you get handed a thermos and pointed toward the truck.
Former Army Ranger Jason Crow, guitar-playing gun owner Bobby Pulido, and ex-hostage negotiator Johnny Garcia round out the cast of what the party apparently views as rare specimens.
Garcia has admitted that even his own campaign trips over the party label.
Recalling a Christmas parade where organizers slapped a giant Democratic Party flag on his truck, Garcia said, "Damn, man, we're gonna have a pretty tough time walking this parade."

The party still can't walk the walk, no matter how many casting calls it runs.
Talarico's Meat Stunt Shows the Problem Runs Deeper Than One Ohio Ironworker
Texas Senate candidate James Talarico has become the party's other cautionary tale.
His campaign has spent months fighting off his own reputation for pledging veganism, parading a girlfriend in front of cameras, and professing an unusual "love" of trans children.
Talarico's campaign staged a visit to Smokey Joe's BBQ in Dallas this June, posting images of him eating meat while wearing a Texas flag button-down shirt.
At the restaurant, Talarico joked, "With the rising price of beef, we may all be forced to be vegans."
His Republican opponent, Ken Paxton, already had a nickname waiting for him: "Low-T."

New York Post columnist Miranda Devine mocked the entire effort, writing that the party's manly-man pitch "proves they're getting dumb and dumber."
This is not a new Democrat problem.

Back in 2024, the party rolled out "White Dudes for Harris," a Zoom call that drew mass online ridicule.
One critic online called it the "most beta gathering in history," a label that stuck to the whole affair.
The American Enterprise Institute noted the call's own founder described the men he was courting through a lens of "Man Box culture" and dominance, hardly a pitch built to win them over.
Then came the 2024 campaign ad stuffed with actors playing cowboys, bikers, and gym rats, a spot so cringeworthy it became its own punchline.
Walz himself became a walking case study, fumbling a shotgun on camera during a hunting trip meant to prove his outdoorsman credentials.

Why Democrats Cannot Fake Their Way Out of This
The polling shows exactly why Democrats keep trying and keep failing.
Men still lean Republican on the 2026 generic ballot, but that GOP edge has shrunk from roughly R+11 at the start of Trump's second term to close to R+4 or R+5 today, according to Morning Consult tracking.
A closing poll number is not the same as a closed deal.
You cannot coach authenticity.
Voters can smell a focus group from a mile away.
The same consultants who spent a decade calling these men toxic are now betting a steak dinner erases it.
It won't.
Real men do not need a campaign memo telling them how to be men.
Faking it on camera only reminds voters why they left in the first place.
