Sophie Cunningham Hopped On Stage at an Indy Honky-Tonk and Owned a Country Classic

May 14, 2026

The PGA Championship rolled into Indy and fans were paying $20 for a lukewarm beer.

Meanwhile, down the street at a local Indianapolis country bar, Indiana Fever WNBA star Sophie Cunningham walked in and climbed up on stage in shredded jorts.

And when Cunningham took the mic, she delivered something those golf fans will never forget.

The Indiana Fever Star Who Knew Every Word of Friends in Low Places

Most WNBA players couldn't name a Garth Brooks song if you spotted them the first three words.

Cunningham not only knows it – she performed it on a bar stage.

The video surfaced this week and the crowd reaction says everything.

This wasn't a polished PR moment or a staged social media play.

It was a 6-foot guard from the Indiana Fever, dressed for a Tuesday night in shredded jorts, cutting loose in the city she now calls home.

The comments section lit up immediately.

"She seems to be pretty freakin awesome," one viewer wrote.

"Sophie can have a second career singing," said another.

The clip spread fast – not because anyone was surprised Cunningham was fun, but because this is the WNBA, where fun goes to die.

Caitlin Clark and Morgan Wallen Were Just the Opening Act

Cunningham's bar night didn't come out of nowhere.

Just days earlier, her teammate Caitlin Clark walked out onstage at Lucas Oil Stadium alongside Morgan Wallen – right there in Indianapolis, in front of a sold-out crowd that roared for both of them.

Cunningham posted the walkout clip to her Instagram Story and captioned it two words: "You badass bitch."

That tells you exactly where she stands.

These two are building something that makes the WNBA's activist wing genuinely nervous.

They're country music fans in a league that spent years trying to make country music a cultural crime.

They wear what they want, go where they want, and make no apologies for enjoying the America the rest of the league keeps lecturing.

Cunningham returned to the Fever on a one-year deal this offseason after making herself indispensable – first by defending Clark when no one else would, then by becoming a star in her own right.

She landed in the 2026 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

She launched her own podcast.

She's working with a producer connected to Morgan Wallen and Hardy on a country music project she says is "brewing."

All of it is happening while she starts alongside the most popular player in women's basketball.

This Is What Winning Looks Like

The WNBA spent years manufacturing culture – lecturing fans about politics, pushing players nobody wanted to watch, then blaming the fans when the arenas stayed half-empty.

Cunningham didn't manufacture anything Tuesday night.

She just walked into a bar and sang "Friends in Low Places."

That song has been a staple at every country bar in America since 1990 – Number One on the country charts, CMA Single of the Year, the kind of song your dad and your granddad both know by heart.

Now a 6-foot WNBA guard is belting it out in Indianapolis in 2026, and the crowd is singing every word right back at her.

The Fever face the Los Angeles Sparks on the road Wednesday – their second game of a season that already feels different.

Clark and Cunningham are 0-1 and nobody seems particularly worried.

These two just showed you exactly who they are off the court.

They're the players you want to win.
