And Prince Harry was reduced to tears after he got this bad news from the royal family.
King Charles ignores Prince Harry as the royal rift grows
King Charles III was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024.
That opened the door for a potential reconciliation between him and his estranged son, Prince Harry.
Harry traveled to the United Kingdom to briefly meet with his father after the diagnosis.
The relationship between the Duke of Sussex and his family hasn’t improved despite his father’s health crisis.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich claimed that Harry is more isolated than ever from Charles.
“Their relationship is deeply strained and beyond distant, way worse when Harry was placed three rows back at his father’s coronation,” Fordwich stated.
Harry and his wife, former D-list actress Meghan Markle, lost their British taxpayer-provided security in 2020 when they quit as senior members of the royal family and moved to Southern California.
The Duke of Sussex filed a lawsuit against the royal family to get his taxpayer-funded security restored in the United Kingdom, arguing it wasn’t safe for his family to be in the country without it.
Fordwich said the lawsuit added to the strain between Harry and his father.
“It has been exacerbated by Prince Harry’s . . . public legal battle regarding security,” Fordwich explained. “King Charles has been intentionally avoiding Harry to prevent not only legal entanglement but further hurt and drama. This is being driven also by those who are hired to protect King Charles from his courtiers, who unanimously see Harry as despicable. Reconciliation is highly unlikely in the foreseeable future.”
Harry’s losing any chance to bury the hatchet with his family
Prince William reportedly hasn’t spoken to Harry in years.
“With Prince William, it’s just as bad,” Fordwich said. “William reportedly has not responded to Harry’s calls or messages.”
Harry has made three short trips to the United Kingdom since he last saw his father, but Charles hasn’t met with him.
People magazine claimed that he doesn’t know anything about his dad’s current health after the cancer diagnosis.
British broadcaster Helena Chard said that Harry’s lawsuit over security caused his family to keep their distance.
“As long as litigious, paranoid, warring Prince Harry keeps fighting with the world, the royal family, and especially King Charles, will keep a suitable distance from him,” Chard stated.
Harry reportedly hopes his father will intervene and have his security restored.
“This is not a positive situation for anyone, least of all King Charles, who is embarrassed and tired of his younger son’s antics,” Chard said. “King Charles refuses to be caught up in the probable legal jeopardy that could play out if he shared any communication with Prince Harry . . . When will Harry realize that King Charles cannot and will not aid his requests?”
The Duke of Sussex paid a price for airing the family’s secrets in interviews and his tell-all memoir, Spare.
“Sadly, there are also huge trust issues,” Chard explained. “The royal family will not release personal information to Prince Harry for fear of him regurgitating the information to the media. That’s why Prince Harry is in the dark regarding his father’s health status.”
Prince Harry burned the bridges with his family and it remains to be seen if he can ever repair that relationship.
