But nobody knew if it was real or just another Hollywood publicity stunt to sell tickets.

Anderson confirms she had a romantic week with Neeson after filming wrapped

Anderson finally set the record straight in a new interview with People.

"If you must know, Liam and I were romantically involved for a short while but only after we finished filming," Anderson revealed.¹

The 58-year-old Baywatch alum described spending an "intimate week" together at Neeson's home in upstate New York.

Anderson said she had her own room and both their assistants came along, with family members stopping by during the visit.

The memorable week included Neeson introducing Anderson as "the future Mrs. Neeson" during dinner at a French restaurant.

She helped him tend to a rosebush overgrown with mint in his garden and even witnessed him chase a bear away from the breakfast window while wearing his bathrobe.

"We were having fun," Anderson explained, comparing their connection to "a little bit like a Nancy Meyers film."²

After that romantic week ended, they went their separate ways to work on other film projects.

But when The Naked Gun press tour kicked off in July, the pair reconnected and clearly couldn't hide their affection for each other.

TMZ claimed the whole thing was orchestrated by PR teams

The summer press tour sparked intense speculation about whether Anderson and Neeson were actually dating.

In August, TMZ dropped a bombshell report claiming the entire romance was a calculated PR strategy cooked up by their teams and Paramount Pictures.

TMZ alleged Anderson and Neeson hadn't seen each other from the time filming wrapped in June 2024 until the press tour began over a year later in July 2025.

The outlet also claimed they never had one-on-one dates and their dinners together were strictly business with personal assistants present.

Sources speaking to People immediately slammed TMZ's report as "ridiculous."

"Everything between them has been genuine. Neither would ever take part in a publicity stunt. They have a great time. Neither of them needs the publicity," an insider told People.³

Another source added that their relationship "isn't just for show" and they have "a real connection."

Anderson addressed PR stunt accusations head-on in September

At the Deauville American Film Festival in France in September, Anderson made her position crystal clear.

While accepting the Deauville Talent Award, she issued a pointed statement about the allegations.

"I do not and will never feed into PR stunts," Anderson declared during her speech. "That would be a death sentence. I'm authentically driven. I'm superstitious when it comes to love. And I'm not comfortable sharing any shred of my romantic life."⁴

She continued by explaining that falling in love on screen is literally her job as an actress.

"There are no silly games being played. I'm sincere," Anderson emphasized.

In her new interview, Anderson laughed off the PR stunt accusations that dogged them throughout the summer.

"I always was laughing when people thought, 'Oh, that's a publicity stunt.' I'm like, 'A publicity stunt? This is real. We have real feelings,'" Anderson said.⁵

She made clear the chemistry between them during the press tour was genuine, not manufactured for cameras.

Anderson and Neeson are now better as friends than romantic partners.

"I adore Liam, but we are better friends, in full honesty," Anderson stated. "He is such a supporter of this new trajectory in my career and kindly tells me he is very proud of me. I'm sure we will always be in each other's lives."⁶

Neeson even surprised Anderson in August at the Williamstown Theater Festival where she was performing in Tennessee Williams' Camino Real.

His support for her theater work showed the genuine friendship and respect between them remains strong.

So much for the cynics who insisted the whole thing was fake.

Anderson and Neeson had a real connection – brief, but real – and she just proved every skeptic wrong.

The media tried turning their genuine romance into another manufactured Hollywood con job.

Anderson shut that down cold.
