McConnell undercuts Trump’s election integrity fight
One of Donald Trump’s big issues is election integrity.
Trump wants Congress to secure America’s election by attacking the SAVE Act to the must-pass government funding bill.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued Republicans should force Democrats to shut down the government if they opposed adding the SAVE Act to the government spending bill ahead of the September 30 deadline.
“If Republicans in the House, and Senate, don’t get absolute assurances on Election Security, THEY SHOULD, IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, GO FORWARD WITH A CONTINUING RESOLUTION ON THE BUDGET. THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO “STUFF” VOTER REGISTRATIONS WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN – CLOSE IT DOWN!!!”
The SAVE Act is a commonsense piece of legislation that requires proof of citizenship to register to vote.
While it’s illegal for illegal aliens to vote, there is nothing stopping states from adding illegal aliens to the voting rolls through automatic voter registration schemes.
The SAVE Act would close that loophole.
But as is typical of the GOP establishment, RINOs like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (RINO-KY) announced their intention to surrender before the fight even started.
McConnell told reporters that the government shouldn’t shut down under any circumstances.
“Shutting down the government is always a bad idea, no matter what time of year it is,” McConnell told reporters.
Establishment Republicans continually surrender in spending fights
Ever since he took over as Republican leader in the Senate back in 2007 Mitch McConnell made funding the agenda of Democrat President’s his top priority.
McConnell opposed the fight to defund Obamacare in 2013.
And ever since the Kamala Harris-Joe Biden administration took office, McConnell fought tooth-and-nail to make sure Congress forked over every penny Kamala Harris demanded to fund her agenda.
At no point did McConnell ever fight for any conservative wins in these spending negotiations.
Now McConnell is prepared to roll over again, and at a point where conservatives believe they have their most leverage to force Democrats to swallow legislation that will give all Americans confidence in the election.
There aren’t any good reasons to oppose legislation that requires proof of citizenship to vote.
But Mitch McConnell doesn’t want to go on offense and force Democrats to explain why they support allowing loopholes at the state level that allow illegal aliens to register to vote.
Mitch McConnell just wants to fund Kamala Harris’ agenda at the highest levels possible and move on.
This budget deal could also hamstring a second Trump administration if Trump wins in November as it would force him to operate the first year of his government under a spending bill crafted for Kamala Harris’ priorities.
