Leno told Inside Edition that he had a nasty fall before performing a stand-up show in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
“You were trying to go for dinner. You rolled down a hill. You hit a rock on your face,” Inside Edition correspondent Jim Moret stated.
“Right,” Leno replied. “Well, I hit a bunch of rocks. It was 60 feet.”
Leno was staying at the Hampton Inn in Greensburg and wanted to grab dinner before he performed that night.
The comedian could have walked a mile down the road to the restaurant that he wanted to go or he could take a shortcut that involved going down a hill.
“I said, well, the hill doesn’t look that steep, let me take a — daah,” Leno recalled. “No, it’s true.”
The hill had what looked like a path on it so he thought that he would be able to make it down it.
But an injury didn’t slow down Leno.
He ate dinner at the local restaurant and performed his stand-up routine as scheduled.
“I did the show and then when I came back to LA, I went to the hospital,” Leno said.
The comedian didn’t want to let down the people who bought a ticket to see him perform that night.
Leno ended up performing another stand-up show in Southern California after the accident.
Jay Leno survived some freak accidents in his life
The former Tonight Show host is known for his legendary collection of classic cars.
He was working on one of his cars when he suffered third-degree burns to his face in 2022.
“I got burned in a fire. I got a face full of gas. A spark jumped. [It’s] not like, ‘How did this happen?’ I mean, people get burned every day,” Leno recalled.
He said his accident got more attention because he’s a celebrity.
“I missed two days’ work. So it wasn’t bad. It was better than the broken leg, believe me,” Leno stated.
Leno was involved in a motorcycle accident two months after he was burned, which resulted in a broken leg.
“I was on my motorcycle, and the guy had to wire across a driveway but with no flag on it,” Leno explained. “And I turned, and the sun was in my eyes. And so it tore my face across.”
“[I] had to call my face guy and go, ‘Listen, remember that new face you gave me? You got another face there? I need another one.’ [He said] ‘All right, come on,’ and he went and gave me another face,” Leno joked.
The 74-year-old comedian is able to roll with the punches that life gives him and not let them get him down.
