California Governor Gavin Newsom wants to be President.
Newsom’s ambition is apparent to all.
And Gavin Newsom extended one offer to Donald Trump that left Democrats flabbergasted.
Newsom flies flag to full staff for the inauguration
Joe Biden ordered all flags to fly at half-mast for a month following the death of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States.
That type of gesture is customary when a former President passes.
But Biden sought to get one final dig in at Donald Trump by not flying flags at full staff for the inauguration.
Trump noted this slight in a post on Truth Social.
“The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration,” Trump posted. “They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves.”
Trump noted this was the first time ever the flags wouldn’t fly at full height during a Presidential inauguration.
“Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – It’s a total mess! In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast,” Trump added. “Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The flags should fly at full mast to honor the new President as one day at full height wouldn’t take away from honoring Carter.
But Joe Biden was so bitter about Donald Trump returning to office that he let his personal anger get in the way of proper protocol and maintaining the dignity of his office.
Gavin Newsom’s olive branch to Donald Trump
House Speaker Mike Johnson announced the Capitol flags would fly at full mast for the inauguration.
Republican Governors gave a similar order.
And so did California Governor Gavin Newsom.
“Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom will temporarily raise the American Flag at the state Capitol to full height on Inauguration Day next week, joining a handful of GOP governors and Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson in the decision,” Fox News reported.
Gavin Newsom wants to be on Donald Trump’s good side.
Newsom’s failure to build up California’s water infrastructure in favor of implementing the green new deal left reservoirs empty when the wildfires ravaged the state.
The inability of California to contain these fires is a policy failure that could imperil Newsom’s planned 2028 Presidential campaign.
That’s why Newsom also invited Donald Trump to tour the areas of Southern California torched by these fires.
“As you prepare to assume the presidency once more, I invite you to come to California again — to meet with the Americans affected by these fires, see the devastation firsthand, and join me and others in thanking the heroic firefighters and first responders who are putting their lives on the line,” Newsom wrote to Trump.
“In the spirit of this great country, we must not politicize human tragedy or spread disinformation from the sidelines,” Newsom’s invitation letter added. “Hundreds of thousands of Americans — displaced from their homes and fearful for the future — deserve to see all of us working in their best interests to ensure a fast recovery and rebuild.”
The more Newsom can make the response to the fires bipartisan – and beat back attempts to attach policy changes to disaster aid – the easier it will be for Newsom to move past attacks on his response to the wildfires when he runs for President in 2028.
