Garth Brooks sued by former makeup artist
A former makeup artist – identified under the alias “Jane Roe” – sued the 62-year-old country music star for sexual assault and battery, claiming Brooks raped her in 2019.
The woman worked for Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood, since 1999 and began working for Brooks in 2017.
In the complaint, the alleged assault by Brooks took place in 2019 in Los Angeles after they returned from a tribute to R&B singer Sam Moore.
“After they arrived, suddenly Brooks appeared in the doorway to the bedroom, completely naked,” the complaint stated. “He stood there and flexed his muscles. Ms. Roe immediately had a sick feeling in her stomach, knowing she was trapped in the room alone with Brooks, with no one to help and far away from Nashville.”
In the complaint, the woman alleged that Brooks engaged in inappropriate sexual talk, harassing text messages, and non-consensual physical contact.
“Jane Roe’s complaint also accused Brooks of openly talking about sex in front of her, exposing his genitals, sharing sexual fantasies with her, texting her explicit messages and groping her breasts. He is also alleged to have taken advantage of her financial hardship at the time, with the frequency of the sexually charged interactions increasing after the 2019 alleged rape,” Fox News reports.
Garth Brooks responds
In a statement obtained by Fox News, Brooks responded by attacking the lawsuit as the culmination of a financial blackmail scheme.
“For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face,” Brooks’ statement read.
Brooks claimed he didn’t pay the “hush money” because doing so would be an admission of guilt for acts he says he never committed.
“Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of—ugly acts no human should ever do to another. We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides,” Brooks’ statement added.
Brooks told fans that he just wanted to get back to playing his music, and that he’s distraught over the fact that his reputation is now tarnished thanks to what he calls, “false accusations.”
But Brooks said he believed in the system and, at the end of the day, he would win vindication.
“I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now. I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be,” Brooks’ statement concluded.
