Pro-Palestinian Democrats are still upset
The October 7 terrorist attack against Israel by the Islamic terrorist group Hama created a fissure in the Democrat Party.
A faction of Democrats consisting mostly of young voters and Muslims were outraged over the war Israel launched in the Gaza Strip against Hamas.
They’ve been pressuring President Joe Biden to call for a permanent ceasefire by Israel in the conflict and take concrete action to make it happen.
A movement sprouted up this year during the Democratic Presidential Primary to cast a protest vote against Biden by choosing uncommitted on the ballot.
In Michigan – home to a large population of Muslims and Arabs – more than 100,000 Democrats voted uncommitted in the Presidential Primary.
Biden won the state by about 150,000 votes in the 2020 Election.
The uncommitted began showing up in other states during the Primary.
Vice President Kamala Harris looked to have unified Democrats around her based on polling after she was selected to replace Biden.
But there is a Democrat faction still furious about her straddling the fence on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Kamala has a problem with disgruntled Democrats
Islamic Center of Detroit Imam Imran Salha was one of the uncommitted movement leaders in the Michigan Democratic Presidential Primary.
Some of the movement has fallen in line behind Kamala, but there are plenty who are still angry at the Democrat Party.
The Democratic National Convention declined to add a Palestinian American speaker during the four-day event, which sparked outrage.
Salha led a protest at the convention to add a Palestinian.
Kamala advocated for Israel’s right to self-defense in her acceptance speech which angered pro-Palestinian supporters.
“We need to invest in a long-term strategy that breaks away from choosing the lesser of two evils every four years,” Salha said.
Abandon Harris Campaign spokesman Hudhayfah Ahmad told NOTUS that working with the Democrat Party is “futile.”
“This is humiliating,” Ahmad said. “It’s futile. They’re learning what we at Abandon Biden have always known. That’s why we launched Abandon Harris. Every single day, this party vindicates us.”
Kamala is keeping the same position that Biden had on handling the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Ahmad had a warning for Kamala about her betrayal of the Palestinian people.
“Abandon Harris is going to prove to you and show that we can make a dent in your voting numbers and make you lose, which then will help us hold you accountable in the future,” Ahmad said.
Michigan is one of the most important swing states in the country and has an estimated 300,000 Muslim residents.
These angry Democrats casting a protest vote or not showing up to the polls could shift the state to former President Donald Trump in a tight race.
Trump won the state by about 10,000 votes in the 2016 Election.
