Dolly Parton’s Nephew Revealed She Planned This Goodbye Video Years Before She Died

Ten months ago Dolly Parton laughed off a fake photo of herself dying in a hospital bed.

On Tuesday her own family stepped in front of a camera to say the goodbye was not fake anymore.

Her nephew says Dolly planned this exact goodbye years before she ever needed it.

Bryan Seaver posted the video to Dolly Parton's account Tuesday afternoon.

He is her nephew.

He is also the son of her sister Cassie Parton.

And for more than two decades he has run her security detail, the same job his father Larry held before him.

Seaver said Dolly came to him years ago and asked him to be the one who delivered this exact message, on camera, when the day finally came.

He said he pictured the moment for years and still was not ready for it.

"It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness," Seaver said in the video.

Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean died at 80.

No cause of death has been released.

Seaver told fans the sadness belongs to the people left behind, not to Dolly herself.

He said she is already reunited with her husband Carl Dean, who died in March 2025, along with her parents.

Then he shared the detail nobody expected.

Days before she died, Dolly called Seaver herself and asked for one specific thing when she was laid to rest.

"She wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton," Seaver said, "because after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable."

The video closed the way she always closed a show, with a black and white photo and five words signed in her own hand.

“I will always love you,” the message she sang so often to fans throughout her career – a message she lived out with not only her words but her actions unto the very end of her time here on Earth.

Family Asks Fans to Send Books Instead of Flowers

In October 2025, AI generated photos claiming to show Dolly on her deathbed with Reba McEntire at her side spread across social media.

Dolly shut it down herself.

"If I was really dying, I don't think Reba would be the one at my death bed," she said at the time.

She added, "I'm not ready to die yet."

Reba fired back at the fake images too.

"That AI mess has got us doing all kinds of crazy things," she said.

Nobody was laughing on Tuesday.

Fans who had spent a year dismissing every rumor about Dolly's health suddenly had to process that this one was real.

The family confirmed only a small, private service for immediate family.

They are not asking for flowers.

They are asking people to donate to the Imagination Library instead, the free book program Dolly built for kids across Appalachia.

Fans have been told to tag her account and leave their memories instead of showing up anywhere in person.

Dolly Parton wrote Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You out of the same mountain voice that carried a dirt poor Tennessee girl to more than 100 million records sold.

That is not a Nashville success story, that is an Appalachia success story, and she made sure nobody ever confused the two.

She could have taken her money to Nashville or Los Angeles and stayed there.

Instead she poured it straight back into the same broke mountain towns she came from, into schools, roads and a library that has never once asked a kid for a dime.

She did that because she still thought of herself as a farmer's daughter who got lucky, not a superstar doing charity.

The Imagination Library has put hundreds of millions of free books into kids' hands, one mailbox at a time, because her own daddy never learned to read and she decided that particular ache was going to end with her generation.

That is a bigger legacy than any chart position, and she built every piece of it on purpose.

The AI hoax from last October reads differently now.

America had gotten so used to Dolly Parton bouncing back that a fake death photo felt like a punchline instead of a warning shot.

This time nobody gets to laugh it off.

Her family stood in front of a camera, in a video already viewed 12.9 million times, and made it real.

Rest in peace, Aunt Dolly.

She spent a lifetime in rhinestones and asked, at the end, only for cotton and quiet.
