Caleb Hammer Confronted a Couple Making Six Figures Over Their Food Stamp Habit

Oct 18, 2026

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins just revealed that fourteen thousand food stamp recipients in one state alone are driving Bentleys and Lamborghinis.

Now a popular finance YouTuber just caught another couple working the exact same broken system.

Caleb Hammer confronted the couple earning six figures who are having taxpayers buying their takeout.

A Six Figure Household Was Still Collecting Six Thousand Dollars a Year in Benefits

Hammer runs Financial Audit, a show where everyday people bring him their real bank statements and let him tear their spending apart on camera.

This couple brought in roughly 100,000 dollars a year combined.

They were also collecting about 6,000 dollars a year in tax-free Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

Hammer's complaint was not that they needed help.

It was that the benefits freed up cash for the couple to spend thousands of dollars eating out while taxpayers quietly covered their grocery bill.

Commentator Ryan Fournier summed up the reaction: people gaming the system need to be called out, and Hammer nailed it.

Hammer built an audience precisely because he refuses to let guests off easy.

He pulls up the actual bank statement on screen, reads every line item out loud, and makes people explain why they bought what they bought.

Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility Is the Reason This Couple Qualified

This couple is not an isolated case.

Minnesota retiree Rob Undersander proved the same point years earlier when he qualified for food stamps as an actual millionaire, calling the result "fraud by design."

Undersander put it in terms nobody can misunderstand: "I have purchased lobster and filet mignon on my EBT card."

The mechanism behind both cases is a federal rule called broad-based categorical eligibility, which lets states approve SNAP applicants based on income alone while ignoring savings, property, and other assets entirely.

America First Policy Institute representative Matt Schmid put the stakes plainly: SNAP "is meant to help needy Minnesotans put food on the table," not fund grocery runs for people who no longer need the help.

Rollins says USDA has already removed 4.3 million people from SNAP rolls while closing in on the loophole.

Her agency also found 186,000 dead people still collecting checks and 442,000 recipients using fake Social Security numbers.

House Oversight investigators said 21 states are still refusing to hand over SNAP recipient data for review.

Economist Rachel Greszler told Congress that improper SNAP payments hit 10.9 percent last year, roughly 10.2 billion dollars, a rate that has risen fivefold.

She said the same broad-based eligibility loophole let 5.6 million ineligible people onto the program nationwide.

The improper payment rate is not even consistent across the country.

South Dakota runs its program at roughly 3 percent improper payments.

Alaska runs at roughly 25 percent.

Minnesota's SNAP spending jumped from about 725 million dollars in 2020 to nearly 2 billion dollars in 2021 under Governor Tim Walz, a 174 percent increase in a single year.

What Fourteen Thousand Luxury Cars Say About Who SNAP Actually Feeds

Representative Brian Jack asked the obvious question at a recent hearing: "How does a program dedicated to feeding low-income families end up subsidizing Lamborghinis and Bentleys?"

The couple on Hammer's show is the answer in miniature.

Nobody broke a law filling out that application.

The law itself was written to let a six figure household collect a benefit meant for families who cannot otherwise put food on the table.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act already puts states on the hook for a bigger share of SNAP costs if they cannot manage the program honestly, which is the first real financial incentive state governments have had to actually fix this.

Every dollar that couple spent eating out on the taxpayer's dime is a dollar that never reached a family that actually needed it.
