The FBI called Brian Cole's arrest the biggest break in the Jan 6 pipe bomb case in four years.
A newly surfaced Capitol security video is now raising serious doubts about whether investigators caught the right man.
What the footage actually shows has two sitting lawmakers and FBI whistleblowers accusing the bureau of locking up an innocent man.
Steve Baker's Capitol Video Puts Cole On the Wrong Side of the Building
Independent reporter Steve Baker posted the footage on X on October 18, 2026.
He says it is never-before-seen Capitol security video.
The footage shows a man matching Brian Cole's build walking on the northwest side of the Capitol.
At the exact same time, the real bomber was planting a device on the opposite side of the building.
One person cannot be in two places at once.
Baker says that single fact clears Cole.
Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department has confirmed the man in the video is Cole.
Baker also spoke with Cole's grandmother.
She told him the jacket in the video was a Christmas gift from her.
The tag was still attached, and she says it points to a recent Kohl's purchase.
A separate video analysis from The Blaze found the same mismatch.
It flagged differences in build, gait, and posture between Cole and the hooded figure in the footage.
Even with poor video quality, two independent reviews now point the same direction.
Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene Turn Their Fire On Kash Patel's FBI
Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie did not mince words.
He wrote on X that Trump's FBI director locked up an innocent man, and Speaker Mike Johnson congratulated him for it.

Marjorie Taylor Greene went further.
She demanded Cole be freed at once and every charge dropped.
Massie's legislative director, Raphael Schreiber, accused the former podcaster running the FBI of getting baited into the arrest.
Former national security adviser Mike Flynn said the video is substantial evidence the suspect was nowhere near the bomb site.
Flynn told the FBI and the Justice Department to stop protecting whoever is actually responsible.
FBI whistleblower Steve Friend posted a screenshot of Kash Patel celebrating the arrest online.
Friend labeled it Exhibit A for a future civil rights case against Patel and Dan Bongino.
Former Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington called for the FBI to be shut down entirely.
These are Trump's own allies in Congress and his former national security adviser raising the alarm.
Jeanine Pirro defended trying Cole in federal court, citing the state lines he crossed and both parties he targeted.
At the time of Cole’s arrest, then-Attorney General Pam Bondi said no new tip led investigators to Cole.
She said a fresh review of existing evidence identified him: battery connectors, kitchen timers, and pipe segments he allegedly bought, plus cellphone and license plate data placing him nearby.
Federal filings place the first of those purchases in May 2019, over a year before the 2020 election.
That timeline does not fit the stolen election motive anonymous leaks described.
Cole's father runs the family's bail bonds business, which sued DHS on behalf of detained immigrants during Trump's first term.
That is not the background legacy outlets wanted for their MAGA bomber narrative.
Cole's defense says the FBI misread normal behavior from a man who carries both autism and obsessive-compulsive diagnoses.
He has pleaded not guilty.
Richard Jewell Already Showed America How This Story Ends
Thirty years ago, the FBI leaked Richard Jewell's name to reporters within days of the Centennial Olympic Park bombing.
Jewell was the security guard who found the bomb and helped move people to safety.
The bureau treated him like the bomber for months anyway, and his life never fully recovered even after prosecutors cleared him.
Clint Eastwood turned the story into Richard Jewell because it was that staggering a miscarriage of justice.
Brian Cole's case is starting to look like a rerun.
A five year manhunt that came up empty needed a name to close the file.
That manhunt carried a 500,000 dollar reward, and even that turned up nothing until investigators circled back to data already on file.
Cellphone pings and a Kohl's jacket tag are not the same as a man's face matching the suspect on video.
If Cole really is innocent, the FBI did not catch a break in December 2025 – it caught a scapegoat.
Kash Patel is the one who ran with this arrest in the first place.
He touted it as a win and let Speaker Johnson celebrate it right alongside him.
Patel is the one who publicly claimed credit for this arrest.
Patel built his reputation on promising to clean house at the bureau, not rubber stamping whatever case landed on his desk.
If that is true, his promise is already broken.
The people demanding Patel answer for it are not Democrats trying to excuse Jan 6.
They are the same conservatives who wanted him running that building in the first place.
That accountability test is sitting on his desk right now.
