Foreign leaders always try to test a new President.
Donald Trump showed that was a mistake right off the bat.
And Donald Trump laid down the law with one foreign leader who stupidly picked this fight.
Donald Trump threatens to destroy Colombia’s economy over refusal to take back illegal aliens
Donald Trump’s number one campaign promise was the largest mass deportation effort in American history.
Trump would take the handcuffs off ICE to execute raids to round up and arrest millions of illegal aliens and send them back to their home countries.
The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, tried to test Donald Trump on this front.
Petro refused to accept two planeloads of illegal aliens from Colombia.
Donald Trump was furious upon learning this news.
Trump let loose on Petro in a post on Truth Social and warned Petro that his defiance threatened the safety and security of the American people.
“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people. Petro’s denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States,” Trump declared.
But Trump didn’t just huff and puff on social media.
Trump warned Petro that he would nuke the Colombian economy out of orbit with sanctions and tariffs if Petro didn’t immediately reverse course and begin accepting flights of illegal aliens from the United States.
Trump’s proposed penalties included:
-Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.
-A Travel Ban and immediate Visa Revocations on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.
-Visa Sanctions on all Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.
-Enhanced Customs and Border Protection Inspections of all Colombian Nationals and Cargo on national security grounds.
-IEEPA Treasury, Banking and Financial Sanctions to be fully imposed.
Trump also let it be known that these penalties were just the floor and Colombia could expect further tariffs, taxes, and sanctions if the defiance continued.
“These measures are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!” Trump concluded.
It didn’t take long for Trump to secure the win.
Within an hour, Petro folded and announced that not only would Colombia accept repatriation flights, but that he would offer up his own Presidential plane to fly illegal aliens from the United States back to Colombia.
“The Government of Colombia, under the direction of President Gustavo Petro, has arranged the presidential plane to facilitate the dignified return of the compatriots who were going to arrive in the country today in the morning, coming from deportation flights,” a statement announcing Petro’s capitulation read.
