Suddenly, pro sports leagues and the media don’t like athletes making their politics known.
The election apparently didn’t send the message that going woke means going broke.
And the NFL punished one star player for this pro-Trump display.
NFL fines 49ers star Nick Bosa for wearing a MAGA hat
San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa interrupted an on the field postgame interview following the 49ers October 27 30-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys wearing a white and gold MAGA hat.
The sports media – which is even more leftist than the political media – lost their collective minds over this display.
Left-wing sportswriters demanded Bosa face punishment not just because he was a Trump supporter, but also as payback for Colin Kaepernick never getting another chance to play in the NFL following his anti-American national anthem protest.
The NFL didn’t blackball Kaepernick, however.
Kaepernick already lost his starting job prior to his protest.
No team signed Kaepernick following the 49ers waiving him because Kaepernick reportedly wouldn’t accept a backup role.
The sports media cited NFL Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8, which reads that “throughout the period on game-day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warm-ups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.”
Liberal sports reporters try to flex their muscle, and it doesn’t go well
Bosa wearing the MAGA hat on the field is what the lefty sports writers fell back on.
But their actions were like a kid in school who tattles to the teacher on other students.
The press spoke to Bosa after the election who informed them he hadn’t yet been sanctioned by league.
“I haven’t got one yet,” Bosa said when asked if he received a fine.
But Bosa didn’t seem bothered saying, “but if it comes, it comes.”
Reporters asked if getting hit in the pocketbook was worth it.
“Yeah,” Bosa replied. “It was well worth it.”
Bosa said he watched the election returns and couldn’t be happier that Donald Trump won a second term.
“I don’t think my position on speaking about it’s gonna change,” Bosa added. “Clearly, the nation spoke, and we got what we got.”
The NFL eventually did issue Bosa a fine of $11,255 for the technical violation of the league rule.
But Bosa sporting a MAGA hat on the field showed the sea change in American culture.
When the 49ers drafted Bosa in the first round in 2019, Bosa deleted all his pro-Trump Tweets as he was now playing in the most liberal city in America and didn’t want to get off on the wrong foot with fans.
In 2016 and 2020, Americans kept their support for Trump to themselves.
2024 was different.
Bosa being unafraid to show his support for Trump was a symptom of the fact that Trump was more popular than ever.
And that translated to electoral support as Trump won the popular vote as well as an Electoral College landslide.
