RNC Research Just Exposed Hakeem Jeffries Fraud Claim With His Own Voting Record

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries promised on camera that Democrats will chase down every crook.

Republicans posted the clip within hours and attached one line about his own voting record.

That single line turned Jeffries' fraud promise into the punchline of his own midterm campaign.

The 235 to 177 Vote Republicans Won't Let Him Forget

Jeffries stood before reporters on July 23 and delivered a line built for a campaign ad.

"We will hold the crooks accountable," he said, vowing that anyone stealing taxpayer money should expect Democrats to come looking for them.

RNC Research, the party's rapid-response account, had the clip online the same day.

It simply asked Jeffries one question underneath his own words: didn't you vote against condemning fraud against the U.S. government.

The question was not rhetorical.

Six weeks earlier the House voted 235 to 177 on H.Res. 1335, a resolution condemning anyone who defrauds the federal government and demanding that eligibility get verified before your tax dollars go out the door.

Every Republican who voted said yes.

Jeffries said no, and the official House roll call confirms it, alongside 176 other House Democrats.

Texas Republican Pat Fallon, who wrote the resolution, said Democrats "have turned a blind eye to the rampant fraud in government programs" for years.

Republicans did not have to explain any of that history.

The vote count did the explaining, and Jeffries did the incriminating, all in his own voice.

Conservative Media Piles On the Contradiction

Twitchy picked up the clip the same day and framed it as a preview of "midterm panic," noting Jeffries is suddenly auditioning as a fraud fighter four months before voters decide the House majority.

PJ Media's Matt Margolis went further, arguing that Democrats spent the last year treating Elon Musk's DOGE fraud crackdown as some kind of assault on democratic norms rather than a legitimate hunt for stolen taxpayer money.

Now the same party wants applause for saying the word "crooks" out loud.

The Government Accountability Office puts improper payments across the federal government at roughly three trillion dollars since 2003, with 186 billion dollars in fiscal year 2025 alone flowing to people the government never should have paid.

That is the money Jeffries voted to keep flowing six weeks before he promised to stop it.

Minnesota's Tim Walz and California's Gavin Newsom have already become shorthand on the right for Democrat governors accused of looking away from fraud on their own watch.

Jeffries now joins that list, courtesy of his own press conference.

The Real Story Behind the Clip

The one thing that fires up anyone watching this play out is how little effort it took to expose it.

Republicans did not need opposition research or a leaked memo.

They needed a search of the House roll call from six weeks earlier and a screenshot.

Democratic strategists have spent months building a "Cost of Corruption" messaging plan meant to marry voter anger over prices with corruption accusations against Republicans.

House Democratic leadership rolled out a fresh slogan this month, "Fighting for an Affordable America," and told members to repeat it through the August district work period.

The crooks line fits neatly into that script, and it does not survive contact with the record Jeffries himself built.

Fraud in federal programs is not an abstraction to seniors on Medicare and Social Security who get told there is no money left while billions leak out to people who were never eligible in the first place.

Jeffries wants credit for noticing that leak six weeks after he voted to keep it unpatched.

Voters four months from the midterms now have the receipt in one place, and Republicans plan to keep it there.
