A Poll Taken the Week of the Mamdani Socialist Surge Just Confirmed What Democrats Now Believe About America

Jul 5, 2026

Zohran Mamdani-backed avowed socialist candidates just ousted two sitting Democratic congressmen.

Now a new poll reveals exactly how far his party has already followed him.

The number Democrats admitted to pollsters the week Mamdani won should terrify every American.

Democrats Choose Socialism Over Capitalism on America's 250th Birthday

A brand-new Economist/YouGov poll dropped with results that would have been unthinkable in any other era of American politics.

Sixty-two percent of Democrats said they would vote for a candidate who identifies as a "Democratic Socialist."

Only 11 percent said they would not.

The poll went further – and got worse.

When asked which economic system they actually prefer, Democrats chose socialism over capitalism 34 percent to 22 percent.

Fifty-eight percent of Democrats now view socialism "favorably."

Read that again: The party that used to claim JFK now prefers the economic system of Venezuela and Cuba.

Sen. Rand Paul appeared on Breitbart News Daily and named the problem directly.

He said young voters simply do not understand "the disaster that is Venezuela, the disaster that is Cuba" – or any of the other countries that already ran this experiment to its logical conclusion.

Paul said those same young Americans equate socialism with "fairness" – never grasping that demanding equal outcomes has produced starvation and collapse everywhere it has ever been tried.

Those are not Republican talking points.

Those are history lessons written in bread lines and mass graves.

Mamdani Swept Three Congressional Primaries and Humiliated Hakeem Jeffries

Mamdani did not win in a vacuum.

The socialist New York City mayor spent the weeks before this poll humiliating the Democratic establishment in front of the entire country.

He endorsed three Democratic Socialist candidates for Congress in New York.

All three won.

Rep. Dan Goldman – the man who prosecuted Trump's first impeachment – fell to Brad Lander, a socialist who immediately vowed to abolish ICE.

Two more Mamdani-backed socialists swept their races behind him, and all three are headed to Washington with the same first-day agenda.

These are not fringe candidates running in fringe districts.

They will be sworn into Congress in January, and they are coming for every enforcement win Trump has delivered at the border.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries personally campaigned against every single one of Mamdani's picks.

He lost every single one.

The National Republican Congressional Committee called the results exactly what they were – Tuesday was "the night the Democrat establishment officially surrendered to Zohran Mamdani."

Jeffries dismissed the losses as insignificant and insisted they would not reshape his caucus's direction.

Nobody believed him – including his own members.

The Pattern Has Been Building Since 2016

This is not a sudden lurch to the left.

It is the finish line of a decade-long sprint.

Gallup has tracked Democratic views on socialism since 2010, when 50 percent of the party viewed it favorably.

By 2025, that number had climbed to 66 percent – a full 16-point jump in 15 years.

Meanwhile, in 2000, just 28 percent of Democrats called themselves liberals.

By 2023, that number had nearly doubled to 54 percent – and the word "liberal" barely covers what they have become.

The Washington Examiner put it plainly: socialists spent a century failing as a third party, then simply walked in through the Democratic back door.

Trump laid it out in the Oval Office during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News – socialism is not a new idea with new answers, it is the same old disaster.

"The concept of give away everything ends up in squalor, crime, and death," Trump said.

He was right – and 62 percent of the Democrat base just confirmed he is fighting exactly the right enemy.

Three new abolish-ICE socialists are headed to Congress this fall, almost guaranteed to win in their deep-blue New York districts.

They ran as the party of Mamdani on the eve of America's 250th birthday.

Your neighbors who vote Democrat are not voting for JFK's party anymore.

They are voting for Mamdani's.
