The federal government just admitted it has wasted $3 trillion of your money since 2003.
Now a Republican congressman is telling you exactly what they're doing about it.
Missouri's Mark Alford went on Real America's Voice Monday morning and laid out the Republican plan to stop the bleeding – and it goes after the people you'd expect.
Illegal Aliens. Dead People. Ghost Providers.
Alford didn't use bureaucratic language.
"This is disgusting," he told the American Sunrise audience. "That's why we're trying to clean things up in Washington."
He pointed to further reconciliation action – what he called a "three package" approach covering housing, health care, energy, and fraud accountability.
The target list is specific.
Illegal aliens collecting Medicaid. Ineligible recipients who were never properly verified. Fraudsters billing for services never rendered.
"We kick people off who shouldn't have been there, including illegal aliens," Alford said.
He says Republicans are going to make "substantial movement" in all of these categories.
Not with that thinking. No one deserves to be there.
What the GAO Numbers Actually Show
The Government Accountability Office just released its FY 2025 improper payments report, and the numbers back Alford up completely.
Federal agencies made $186 billion in bad payments last year – a $24 billion jump from the prior year.
Medicare led the damage at $57 billion.
Medicaid followed at $37.4 billion, with the GAO pointing to eligibility errors during the phase-out of Biden's COVID-era rules as the primary driver.
Six programs had error rates above 25 percent. Nineteen topped 10 percent.
And the GAO's own conclusion? The watchdog said the federal government has no reliable system to prevent improper payments from going out the door.
They're not pretending anymore. Washington admits it has no mechanism to stop sending your money to the wrong people.
Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Are the Symptoms – Government Programs Are the Disease
Alford's push builds on what the One Big Beautiful Bill – a massive spending bill – already accomplished when Trump signed it last July.
An estimated 1.4 million illegal aliens were removed from Medicaid after the law required actual proof of citizenship or legal status for enrollment.
California had been running a financing scheme for years – tripling provider taxes, recycling the money through inflated Medicaid payments, and collecting federal reimbursements on the inflated totals. That loophole alone drained more than $19 billion from the federal treasury in under four years. The OBBB shut it down.
The law also forced 6.4 million Obamacare exchange enrollees to prove they actually qualify – people who slipped onto the rolls under Biden's sign-up-first, verify-never policies.
Alford says the next reconciliation push goes further.
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe is already moving in lockstep – launching an accelerated revalidation of high-risk Medicaid providers in partnership with CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, targeting specifically the ghost-billing operations that have bled the system for years.
"Fraud, waste, and abuse have no place in our state," Kehoe said. "Missouri will not tolerate criminal actors who attempt to steal resources from the seniors, children, and people with disabilities who rely on Medicaid."

The Democrats Built This And Plenty of Supposed Republicans Helped
Here's what nobody on the left wants to say out loud.
The $3 trillion didn't accumulate because of spreadsheet glitches.
It accumulated because RINOs insisted time after time that taxpayers simply had to agree to more government spending in order to eventually rein in out-of-control government spending.
Democrats spent two decades treating eligibility verification as cruelty and weak-kneed Republicans in Congress bought the lie that if they didn’t go along, there’d be hell to pay in the next election.
Every Republican who pushed for work requirements, citizenship checks, or tighter documentation got called heartless. And in some sense that was the absolute truth.
Every time GAO flagged dead people collecting Medicare payments or illegal aliens enrolled in Medicaid, Democrats blocked the fix and RINOs were complicit.
The fraud wasn't a flaw in the system. The fraud was a feature.
Alford's message Monday was simple: that ends now.
"The American people get what they deserve," he said – "a government that functions properly, hopefully bringing down our spending and certainly reducing national debt."
It can’t be hopefully – bringing down spending and the national debt has to be non-negotiable.
