A Democrat congresswoman just got caught stealing $5 million in federal disaster funds.
Now Speaker Mike Johnson and her own colleagues are moving to throw her out of Congress.
What she said when confronted with 25 proven ethics violations will make your blood boil.
The Case Against Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick
Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of Florida is facing expulsion as early as Monday.
The charge: stealing $5 million in FEMA disaster relief funds and funneling the money into her own pockets.
This is not an allegation from political opponents.
A House Ethics subcommittee reviewed the evidence and found the panel had proven 25 out of 27 counts of ethics violations against her.
Twenty-five out of twenty-seven.
That is not a close call.
Speaker Mike Johnson has already seen enough.
"The Ethics Committee has gone through all of its processes, and they found some alarming facts," Johnson told reporters. "I think the facts are indisputable at this point, and so I believe it'll be the consensus of this body that she should be expelled."
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has been even more direct.
She posted on X that the expulsion vote is "ready to be called up on the 21st" – and told reporters she is "very confident" the votes are there.
The House Ethics Committee hearing is set for Monday, April 21.
Her Response to 25 Proven Counts
Here is what Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick said in response to all of this.
She denied any wrongdoing.
Then she accused Congress of rushing to judgment.
"Those calling for my resignation or expulsion do not know, nor do they care about my district or the fight we are in right now," she said.
Twenty-five of twenty-seven ethics counts proven against you – and your defense is that people just do not care enough about your district.
The arrogance is breathtaking.
This is a woman who took $5 million in federal emergency funds – money meant for COVID vaccination programs in underserved Florida communities – and routed it through multiple accounts to fund her own congressional campaign and line her own pockets, according to 25 of 27 findings a congressional ethics panel just confirmed.
And she wants you to believe she is the victim.
The Accountability Wave Democrats Cannot Stop
Cherfilus-McCormick's expulsion hearing didn't appear out of nowhere.
It comes days after Rep. Eric Swalwell announced he would resign rather than face an expulsion vote of his own.
It comes days after Rep. Tony Gonzales made the same calculation.
The pattern is unmistakable.
The era of congressional misconduct with no consequences – the era where powerful members could do whatever they wanted and dare the institution to act – is ending.
Expulsion requires a two-thirds vote of the House, which means Democratic support would be needed to remove her.
With 25 of 27 counts proven, the votes to reach that threshold are almost certainly there.
Democrats spent years accusing Republicans of defending lawbreakers in power.
Now their own party is about to vote to expel one of their members for stealing from hurricane victims.
If Cherfilus-McCormick is removed, she will become one of the very few members expelled from the House since the Civil War.
The last member expelled before the modern era was Rep. James Traficant of Ohio in 2002 – convicted of bribery, racketeering, and tax evasion.
Cherfilus-McCormick is apparently auditioning for his legacy.
The hearing is Monday.
Democrats spent a decade telling you they were the party of accountability.
On April 21, they get to prove it – by voting to remove one of their own members for stealing money meant for Americans whose homes were washed away.
If they protect her, they own her.
