Wasserman Schultz Just Broke With Her Own Party to Side With Trump on Iran War

Mar 8, 2026

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is one of the most powerful Democrats in Washington.

The former DNC head just made a move that will surprise many.

The Florida Democrat just announced she'll vote yes on supplemental funding for Operation Epic Fury.

Wasserman Schultz Commits to Iran Supplemental Funding on Live TV

On Friday's broadcast of Bloomberg's Balance of Power, Wasserman Schultz made it official.

"I will support a supplemental," she told co-host Joe Mathieu, "because we have our military over there and we need to make sure that we're protecting our national security interests and ensuring that they have the resources that they need."

She wrapped the announcement in qualifications – no day-after plan, insufficient preparation, Congress wasn't consulted.

But the bottom line: when the vote comes, she's a yes.

That's a direct break from most of her own, at least publicly, at least at this time.

Senator Chris Murphy publicly challenged which Democrat would hand money to fund the operation.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer walked out of the administration's Iran briefing calling their justification for the war woefully inadequate.

But that’s all messaging for some of their particular constituents back home and nationally.

At the end of the day they would just as soon be on the other side if this was under say Joe Biden or Barrack Obama.

Schumer would almost certainly be for it.

In fact, Talking Points Memo, quoting Politico, reported Schumer said he’d want to see it but didn’t rule it out.

“Politico quoted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as saying, ‘before you can feel satisfied about a supplemental — and I haven’t seen it — you have to know what the real goals are and what the endgame is’” TPM wrote.

That’s Swamp Choir code for if there’s enough taxpayer cash in the supplemental for his cronies, he’ll support it.

Senior Appropriations Committee Democrat Chris Coons was even more clear, saying of the looming Pentagon supplemental funding request that he intended to “make sure we are making all the investments we can” under the guise of safeguarding American troops.

You see what’s really going on.

They know that message isn’t like to get aired in the media outlets that the Democrat base pays attention to.

But for the folks pulling the strings the signal that they’ll play ball is loud and clear.

Democrats Openly Backing Operation Epic Fury Funding

Here's what the media won't tell you about the Iran supplemental fight: party-lines are not the real master of a whole lot of Swamp politicians.

They spew them for the base when they have to but they’re really doing something else entirely behind the scenes.

Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island – a top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee – said "we have to look at what they need" when asked about the supplemental. Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan told Politico she doesn't "rule anything out – I mean, we're in it." Sen. Gary Peters, also of Michigan, told reporters to take it one step at a time.

All Senate Democrats. All on defense committees. All leaving the door open.

Sen. John Fetterman didn't even bother with the door – he kicked it open. He was the only Democrat Senator to vote against the War Powers resolution entirely, posting on social media before the vote: "I'm a hard no. My vote is Operation Epic Fury."

He’s up for reelection this year, his state is decidedly pro-Trump and he thinks it will help him in November.

Close Washington watchers have a name for what you're watching – the uniparty.

And right now it's working exactly as designed.

One Eye on November and One on the UniParty Elite’s Wishes

Like Fetterman, Wasserman Schultz has an eye on what is going to win in her district and one on what the elites orchestrating much of what goes on in Washington really want – for them that means they can publicly break with their party line.

Wasserman Schultz voted for the War Powers resolution earlier this week – now she's voting for the money.

Both give her cover. Neither one costs her a dime in her district.

That's not a Democrat crossing the aisle out of conscience. That's a career politician running a play she's run before – oppose the optics, fund the cronies, collect the checks and votes.

Your tax dollars are heading to a war Debbie Wasserman Schultz told you she opposed, just like a whole bunch of GOP politicians did too.
