Washington DC Snowplow Driver Wore A Tiara During The Storm And It Says Everything About America

Jan 28, 2026

This weekend's monster storm pummeling Washington, DC reminded everyone who the real heroes are when nature gets nasty.

And a Washington DC snowplow driver wore a tiara during the storm and it says everything about America.

Princess Cat Commands The Streets While D.C. Drowns In Sleet

The Capital Weather Gang warned drivers to stay off the roads as waves of heavy sleet piled up across Washington, D.C.

Roads turned into ice rinks.

Even snowplows got stuck.

But one driver wasn't backing down from the challenge.

Princess Cat — a heavy plow driver for the D.C. Department of Public Works — rolled up to a local news crew wearing a full tiara while commanding her massive plow through treacherous conditions.

She urged residents to stay home so crews could clear the streets safely.

The D.C. DPW confirmed she's the real deal.

Princess Cat works the midnight to noon shift and has been doing this for 20 years.

That's two decades of brutal overnight shifts, dangerous conditions, and ungrateful drivers who think their street should be plowed first.

She explained the reality of winter storm operations — roads get plowed, but when precipitation falls this hard and fast, streets turn messy again before crews can make it back around.

The city deployed more than 300 heavy and light plows for this storm.

But Princess Cat became the face of the entire operation when video of her tiara-wearing interview went viral across social media.

A Princess In A Heated Truck: Is This What American Grit Actually Looks Like These Days?

Snowplow drivers are the unsung heroes of winter who work through conditions most people won't even drive through.

Wisconsin DOT Secretary Kristina Boardman called them "the unsung heroes of winter" who work "day and night to keep our roads clear and safe."

These crews face 16-hour shifts during major storms with barely eight hours off before they're back at it.

Duane Abbott, a Wisconsin driver with 20 years experience, has watched reckless drivers pass him, hit curbs, then shake their fists at him while he's trying to save their lives.

Princess Cat fits right into this tradition of Americans who take pride in doing hard jobs well.

She doesn't complain about the conditions.

She doesn't whine about the hours.

She puts on a tiara, climbs into a 75,000-pound plow truck, and gets to work.

The Difference Between Complainers And Doers

While Princess Cat and her crew battled historic sleet at dangerously low temperatures, social media exploded with people praising her attitude.

One user wrote: "A woman in a tiara working through awful conditions to clear the roads for her fellow citizens? I do love this country."

That captures exactly what makes America work.

It's not the politicians giving speeches or the activists demanding someone else fix their problems.

It's Princess Cat and millions like her who show up, do the hard work, and bring joy to it even when conditions are miserable.

The storm that hit D.C. this weekend was no joke.

Historic sleet combined with bitter cold created conditions that will disrupt the city for days.

Most government workers stayed home.

Princess Cat showed up with a tiara.

That's the American spirit in one image — taking pride in service, refusing to be beaten down by circumstances, and bringing personality to work that most people never see or appreciate.

Snowplow drivers like Princess Cat work while everyone else sleeps, clearing roads so the rest of us can get to work safely.
