Vivek Ramaswamy delivered one brutal message that has the GOP scrambling

Nov 9, 2025

Republicans got humiliated on Election Day.

Democrats swept every major race across the country.

And Vivek Ramaswamy delivered one brutal message that has the GOP scrambling.

Democrats crushed Republicans in surprise blowout

Tuesday night was a disaster for Republicans.

Democrats swept Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City in races that weren't even supposed to be close.¹

Former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger crushed Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears by 15 points to become Virginia's first female governor.²

New Jersey Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill demolished Republican Jack Ciattarelli by 13 points in a race Republicans thought they could win.³

Socialist Zohran Mamdani won New York City's mayoral race after running a campaign focused entirely on rent freezes and city-run grocery stores.⁴

California voters approved Proposition 50, handing Democrats the power to redraw congressional maps and potentially flip five Republican-held House seats.⁵

President Donald Trump blamed the losses on the government shutdown and the fact that he wasn't on the ballot.⁶

"'TRUMP WASN'T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT,' according to Pollsters," Trump posted on Truth Social.⁷

But Vice President JD Vance admitted Republicans have a serious problem they need to fix before the 2026 midterms.

"I said it in 2022, and I've said it repeatedly since: our coalition is 'lower propensity' and that means we have to do better at turning out voters than we have in the past," Vance wrote on X.⁸

Vivek sounds the alarm about what Republicans must do

Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy appeared on Fox News to break down exactly what went wrong for Republicans.

"We got our a–es handed to us in New Jersey, Virginia and New York City. Democrats swept all three," Ramaswamy admitted.⁹

The former presidential candidate didn't pull any punches about what Republicans need to change heading into next year's crucial midterm elections.

"There's two key lessons for Republicans, listen carefully," Ramaswamy continued.¹⁰

His first lesson was simple but devastating: Republicans need to make life affordable for working Americans.

"We have got to focus now on domestic economic policy," Ramaswamy explained on The Ingraham Angle. "People across the country feel like their electric bills have gotten too high, feel like healthcare costs are out of control, grocery prices or even if you think about even just the daily cost of living or the affordability of housing."¹¹

Exit polls showed the economy dominated voters' minds in every single race Democrats won.¹²

Roughly half of Virginia voters said the economy was their top issue, and about 60% of those voters picked Spanberger.¹³

In New Jersey, Sherrill won about two-thirds of voters who called the economy the top issue facing the state.¹⁴

Even in New York City, affordability ranked as voters' number one concern.¹⁵

Ramaswamy hammered Republicans for letting Democrats own the affordability message.

"I want to see the Republican Party be the party that actually leads the way, rather than just sweeping this under the rug," Ramaswamy stated.¹⁶

He emphasized the need to cut red tape that prevents building more houses and bringing down costs across the board.

"We want more houses built, but there are land use restrictions that limit the construction of new homes. So, we've got to increase the supply of everything that matters," Ramaswamy said.¹⁷

Republicans abandoned their winning message

Ramaswamy's second lesson cut even deeper: Republicans need to ditch identity politics and focus on character over demographics.

Throughout his political career, Ramaswamy has consistently argued Republicans should reject the Left's obsession with race and gender.

Republicans closed their campaigns talking about immigration and social issues while Democrats hammered away at kitchen table economics.

That's the exact opposite of what won Trump his landslide victory in 2024.

Trump campaigned on making America affordable again and bringing down the cost of groceries, gas, and housing.

But Republican candidates in Virginia and New Jersey let Democrats flip the script and blame Trump for high costs.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune admitted Republicans need to craft a "winning" message on the economy before 2026.¹⁹

"Those are the issues clearly that people are focused on," Thune told reporters. "It's really a function of who's best on the economy. Once we have an opportunity to get our message out there, it'll become clear who is."²⁰

Even Trump acknowledged Republicans dropped the ball on messaging.

"Republicans don't talk about it," Trump told Fox News. "They don't talk about the word affordability."²¹

The brutal truth is that Tuesday's wipeout was completely avoidable.

Republicans have delivered real results on the economy – lower inflation, lower interest rates, and a surging stock market.

But voters don't care about stock market records when they're struggling to pay for groceries and electricity.

Ramaswamy's message to Republicans is crystal clear: talk about making life affordable for working families, or get destroyed in the midterms.

Democrats figured out how to weaponize economic anxiety against Trump.

If Republicans don't start fighting back on affordability, they're going to lose the House and possibly even the Senate in 2026.

The midterm elections are exactly one year away.

Republicans better hope they can turn things around fast.
